  • Publication number: 20250296670
Abstract: An electric direct-drive motor for an underwater vehicle comprises a fully-encapsulated stator and a rotor. The fully-encapsulated stator may comprise a stator encapsulated in a thermally-conductive and electrically-isolative encapsulant. The encapsulant may be configured to align the rotor within the fully-encapsulated stator. The fully-encapsulated stator may have an internal surface to operate as a bearing surface for the rotor. A radial gap between the rotor and the internal surface may provide a fluid bearing between the rotor and stator. The internal surface of the fully-encapsulated stator operates as a bearing surface for the rotor and the radial gap provides a fluid bearing when operating in a flooded assembly. This allows the electric direct-drive motor to be directly exposed to seawater and the high external water pressure eliminating any need for a pressure compensated housing and dynamic seals and bearings.

  • Patent number: 10398053
Abstract: An apparatus includes a clamping assembly configured to secure a component in or to a support structure. The clamping assembly includes a first side rail configured to be coupled to the support structure. The clamping assembly also includes first and second clamps each configured to slide along the first side rail. The first and second clamps are configured to apply first and second clamping forces to the component in different directions from one another. The clamping assembly may further include a second side rail configured to be coupled to the support structure and third and fourth clamps each configured to slide along the second side rail, where the third and fourth clamps are configured to apply third and fourth clamping forces to the component in different directions from one another.

  • Patent number: 10080306
Abstract: An apparatus includes a clamping assembly configured to receive and secure a component in or to a support structure. The clamping assembly includes first and second side rails configured to be coupled to the support structure. The clamping assembly also includes at least one first clamp. Each first clamp is mounted to one of the side rails and is configured to slide along that side rail. Each first clamp is also configured to apply at least one first clamping force to the component in a first direction. The clamping assembly further includes at least one second clamp. Each second clamp is mounted to one of the side rails and is configured to slide along that side rail. Each second clamp is also configured to apply at least one second clamping force to the component in a second direction different from the first direction.
