  • Publication number: 20210320712
Abstract: The invention relates to the implementation of wireless communications for a moving platform, wherein the moving platform is provided connectivity to a network via terrestrial base stations and satellite. The network is designed such that the most cost-efficient delivery method is deployed, so in regions in which there is affordable access to power and communication networks, base stations may be deployed, and in regions in which power and communications network access is prohibitively expensive, satellite may be used. The network adapts to changes in moving platform location and provides smooth service transitions as moving platforms move from the service area of a first base station to the service area of a second base station and between a service of a base station and a service area of a satellite.

  • Publication number: 20200244346
Abstract: The invention relates to the implementation of wireless communications in a network, which employs a multi-beam satellite, with an associated satellite service area, and a terrestrial-based capacity augmentation system, such as an air-to-ground communications system and/or an aircraft platform, for broadband Internet service to aeronautical mobile users. The capacity augmentation system may serve users in areas of elevated demand in the satellite service area. The network adapts to changes in demand over the service area and provides smooth service transitions as airplanes fly across the service area.
