  • Patent number: 5076469
Abstract: A device for applying or spraying viscous materials, preferably molten thermoplastic materials, has a discharge nozzle, which is supplied through separate lines with viscous material and heated gas. The supplied gas is conducted to the discharge nozzle by way of a heat exchanger, which contains a sintered metal insert thermally coupled to a heating device.

  • Patent number: 4886013
Abstract: A coating apparatus for applying a stripe of fluid coating material over the longitudinal seams of a series of can bodies moving along a can forming line with the coating apparatus within the interior of the can bodies including a fluid manifold module removably secured to an end cap member and communicating with sources of air and fluid coating material under pressure through the end cap member, a coating module removable secured to said end cap member and having a pneumatically operated valve therein for selectively opening and closing a fluid flow passageway to control the discharge of coating material onto the seams of can bodies, and preferably a solenoid valve mounted in the air flow passageway in the fluid manifold module adjacent the coating module for controlling the flow of air to operate the coating material valve.

  • Patent number: 4791142
Abstract: A method and apparatus for creating molten thermoplastic material foam by separately pressurizing the molten thermoplastic material and a gas and by delivering that material and gas sequentially to a premixing chamber, through a sintered metal insert and a post mixing chamber, to a discharge orifice of a spray nozzle. The apparatus for practicing this method comprises a nozzle assembly, including a nozzle adaptor and a nozzle, the adaptor of which has flow passages for delivering the pressurized gas and molten material to a premixing cavity and subsequently to and through a sintered metal insert contained within the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4667879
Abstract: A valved flow control dispenser including a slot nozzle through which molten thermoplastic material is dispensed onto a substrate. The slot nozzle includes a nozzle body within which there is a transverse cylindrical bore, which bore is intersected by two spaced radial openings. One of these openings is in fluid communication with a pressurized source of molten thermoplastic material, and the other opening is in fluid communication with a slotted discharge opening of the nozzle. A cylindrical flow control member having a groove provided in its exterior surface is rotatably mounted within the bore. This groove is of varying width and provides a flow path for molten thermoplastic material between the openings in the bore. By varying the rotatable orientation of the cylinder relative to the openings, the width of molten material dispensed from the slotted discharge openings of the nozzle may be varied.
