  • Patent number: 5139275
Abstract: A shaft seal including a reinforcement ring 1 with a lip ring 2 made of a polymeric material which is connected thereto and which is provided with a cylindrical surface 4 surrounding a shaft 3 at a certain distance and with projecting retaining bodies having flow bounding surfaces disposed in radial direction of the aforesaid cylindrical surface, and the aforesaid flow bounding surfaces are associated with the longitudinal direction of the shaft at an acute angle. The free spaces 6 which are enclosed by the cylindrical surface 4, the shaft 3, and the retaining bodies 5 during non-rotation or standstill of the shaft are of capillary-active narrowness and axially completely open in direction toward the space to be sealed as well as in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4886281
Abstract: A sealing ring for sealing about a relatively-movable shaft has a sealing surface and resilient means for resiliently bearing the sealing surface on the shaft. At least one annular projection projects from the sealing surface for contacting the shaft. The annular projection is made recessional into the sealing surface, by making at least the portion of the sealing ring at the sealing surface of a rubber having a Shore A hardness of from about 65 to about 90, in such a way as to leave a portion of the sealing surface in contact with the shaft at an annular surface region spaced axially from the annular projection.

  • Patent number: 4553763
Abstract: A seal ring has a lip ring which is at least radially resilient and has a sealing lip for sealing about a reprocating or rotating machine part and a support surface axially spaced from the sealing lip. A reinforcing ring is radially spaced from the lip ring and coaxial therewith. An intermediate ring extends, in part, approximately parallel to the axis of the lip and reinforcing rings. It joins the lip ring at one end within the axial range of the support surface and, via the axis parallel part, joins the reinforcing ring at its other end within an axial region bounded by the sealing lip and the end of the support surface axially remote therefrom. This arrangement of the intermediate ring accommodates radial displacement of the machine part without displacing of the sealing lip from the machine part by tilting moments.

  • Patent number: 4447064
Abstract: A radial shaft sealing ring is disclosed which comprises a lip ring having a sealing lip which is resiliently pressed against the shaft to be sealed. The lip ring has a conical inner surface which surrounds the shaft and faces the liquid to be sealed off. A plurality of liquid deflectors are associated with the lip ring on the side of the sealing lip facing the sealed off liquid. The liquid deflectors are spaced apart around the circumferential periphery of the shaft. The liquid deflector have a leading surface which is essentially parallel to the axis of the shaft and which is inclined or curved forward toward the direction of shaft rotation. The inner edge of the liquid deflectors is a knife-edge like wiper which merges into the inclined or curved leading surface and which is spaced from the peripheral surface of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4427205
Abstract: A radial shaft sealing ring is disclosed. The sealing ring comprises a flat circular sealing element fabricated from a polymer material. The outer circumferential region of sealing element is mounted in a holding ring which surrounds the shaft. The sealing element is curved from the outer circumferential region to the inner circumference in the direction toward the sealed off medium with the sealing element being expanded away from the shaft in the region adjacent the inner circumference. The sealing element contacts the shaft intermediate the outer circumferential region and the expanded inner circumference region thereby providing a circular sealing contact area. The sealing element curvature provides an increasing inside diameter for the sealing element along the axial distance of the shaft from the circular sealing contact area to the expanded inner circumference. The inner circumferential area may be provided with swirl fins.
