Patent number: 5115816Abstract: An improved disposable single-hand controlled aspirating device for medical aspirating activities most particularly fine needle biopsy procedures. The aspirating device includes a syringe barrel, a plunger operative in the barrel, and a finger grip assembly that is mounted to the syringe barrel and plunger for controlling plunger movement within the barrel. The finger grip assembly includes a body member and a trigger member slidably engaged within the body member. More specifically, the finger grip assembly resembles a pistol-like handle and trigger arrangement that enables a user of the device to control plunger movement in the syringe barrel with a single hand.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1991Date of Patent: May 26, 1992Assignee: Peter F. Lee, Inc.Inventor: Peter F. Lee

Patent number: 4664128Abstract: A disposable, single-hand controlled aspirating device for medical aspirating activities such as subcutaneous biopsy of fluid, soft tissue and bone marrow is provided. The aspirating device includes a syringe barrel, a plunger operative in the barrel, a finger grip member surrounding the exterior wall of the barrel that includes a collar portion engaging the exterior wall of the barrel and flange portions extending outwardly from the exterior wall of the barrel a distance sufficient to provide support for a user's fingers during aspiration procedures, and a spring surrounding the plunger portion external to the barrel for biasing the plunger outwardly from the barrel after the plunger has been advanced in the barrel toward the distal end thereof.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1985Date of Patent: May 12, 1987Assignee: Peter F. Patent number: 4655226Abstract: An improved disposable biopsy needle unit (12) includes a metal cannula (16), a molded plastic T-shaped handle (18), and a removable stylet (20). A solid hub portion (28) of the handle (18) is formed around a lateral tab (30) near the proximal end of the cannula (16) for reinforcement. A hollow fitting (32) extends between the proximal end of the cannula (16) and a recess between the opposite wing portions (26) of the handle (18). Locking ears (48) are preferably provided on the fitting (32) for releasable attachment to an aspiration device, such as a syringe (14). The stylet (20) includes a solid needle (34) with a turned proximal end within a molded plastic cap (38) for reinforcement. A lug (44) and slot (46) are provided on the stylet (20) and handle (18), respectively, for properly locating the stylet when inserted into the cannula (16). A second embodiment (80) incorporates an upset, non-circular boss (82) on the fitting (32') instead of a tab (30) on the cannula (16') for internal reinforcement.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1984Date of Patent: April 7, 1987Assignee: Southland Instruments, Inc.Inventor: Peter F. Lee

Patent number: 4312219Abstract: An apparatus that is capable of continuously measuring the weight loss of a light weight, porous sheet material during drying while in constant contact with a heated surface. The resulting data may be converted to drying rate curves suitable for analyzing the effects on drying rate of furnish additives and processing conditions. The testing device is particularly useful for evaluating grades of paper or paperboard having basis weights greater than 50 g/m.sup.2. The device includes an electrically heated arcuate plate maintained at a constant temperature. The paper sample to be tested is brought into good heat transfer contact with the plate by means of a tensioned fabric that exerts a normal load on the sample but does not interfere with mass transfer of the vapor away from the drying sample. An air ventilating system provides a low turbulence flow of air uniformly over the fabric covering the sample.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1980Date of Patent: January 26, 1982Assignee: Weyerhaeuser CompanyInventors: Peter F. Lee, Jeffrey A. Hinds

Patent number: 4297164Abstract: An improved displacement washing process for recovering processing chemicals from a porous medium, particularly wood pulp, is described. The effective mobility of a displacing solution, typically a more dilute solution of the chemical sought to be recovered, is reduced such that it is less than the mobility of the solution to be recovered. In a pulp mill washing system, consumption of wash water may be reduced 0.6 tons of water per ton of pulp produced without reducing chemical recovery. Conversely, chemical effluent from the washer could be reduced by 50% without increasing wash water requirement. Mobility is proportional to the permeability of the porous medium with respect to the solution of interest and inversely proportional to the viscosity of that solution. Mobility of the wash solution relative to the solution to be displaced is preferrably reduced by the addition of a soluble, high molecular weight polymer, greater than 10.sup.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1980Date of Patent: October 27, 1981Assignee: Weyerhaeuser CompanyInventor: Peter F.
