Patent number: 9062662Abstract: A hybrid wind turbine tower support structure that combines pultruded fiber glass composites lineals with reinforced concrete, effectively creating a low cost structure for holding large, laterally-forced-thrusts from wind turbine rotor blades. The structure is designed to be lower in installed costs then its counterpart steel support structure, yet be capable of withstanding very large thrust loads, deflecting-under-load less than or equal to, but no more, under extreme wind loading, than its counterpart, steel support structure.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2014Date of Patent: June 23, 2015Assignee: Ebert Composites CorporationInventors: David W. Patent number: 8954481Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for managing the products of a sub-community operating within a community are provided in the illustrative embodiments. The sub-community is defined in an application executing on a data processing system using a processor and a memory. The community comprises a set of members working for a common objective. The sub-community comprises a subset of the set of members working for a part of the common objective. The defining of the sub-community also configures a closing condition for the sub-community. A plurality of members is added to the sub-community. The sub-community is created.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2012Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Peter Fay, Barry Alan Feigenbaum, Elizabeth Vera Woodward, Shunguo Yan

Patent number: 8082984Abstract: Devices and methods for setting a packer inside a wellbore with little appreciable reduction of the useable area of the wellbore. The outer casing or liner of the wellbore contains one or more integrated casing coupler joints having an increased diameter chamber portion. A large bore packing element is carried within the increased diameter chamber portion. The packing element may be selectively actuated to form a seal against an interior tubular member. Because the packing element is located within the chamber portion of the casing coupler, the packer may be set while saving useable cross-sectional area within the casing.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2011Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Bennett M. Richard, Edward O'Malley, Yang Xu, Peter Fay, Larry Urban

Patent number: 7926555Abstract: A series-parallel condensing system comprised of an air-cooled condenser, a surface condenser, a circulating water system and a cooling tower, body of water, or other equivalent heat sink. The cooling tower, being an evaporative device, consumes water. In the simplest embodiment of the invention steam is condensed in a two-stage series process with steam first fed to an air-cooled condenser where the majority of the steam is condensed and then to a surface condenser, which in conjunction with the circulating water system and cooling tower condenses the remaining steam. This embodiment achieves the greatest degree of water conservation. The function of the surface condenser is to replace the dephlegmator of the air-cooled condenser, which results in a significant reduction in the size and cost of the air-cooled condenser and also yields improved plant performance and operational simplicity.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2007Date of Patent: April 19, 2011Assignee: GEA Power Cooling, Inc.Inventors: Frank David Sanderlin, Herman Peter Fay

Patent number: 7431096Abstract: A liner hanger includes an annular slip seat that radially surrounds a section of the liner being hung. The slip seat contains a plurality of windows that each accommodates at least one intermediate slip seat. The intermediate slip seats, in turn, each contain windows that accommodate a slip element. There are tongue and groove arrangements between the slip seat and the intermediate slip seat as well as between the intermediate slip seat and the slip element that allow axial movement of the slip element to be translated by camming surfaces into radial outward movement of both the intermediate slip seat and the slip element. The imposition of one or more intermediate slip seats, in an embedded or nested relationship, allows for greater radial expansion of the slip elements with respect to the interior liner.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2005Date of Patent: October 7, 2008Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventor: Peter Fay

Patent number: 7383891Abstract: A packer includes one or more anchors for securing the packer in a wellbore and a pair of seal elements that form a fluid seal. The packer assembly is hydraulically set and, thus, it can be located at any desired position within the wellbore. The packer assembly is secured within the wellbore by a staged setting process through use of shear pins that have increasingly stepped shear values. Redundancy in packer sealing is provided by the use of two seal elements to establish fluid sealing. The design of the packer assembly also provides hydraulic isolation of the actuating portions of the packer assembly upon setting.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2005Date of Patent: June 10, 2008Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Peter Fay, Timothy Wootan, Paul Zutz, John Baugh, Kenneth Almond
