  • Patent number: 6918592
Abstract: A face seal device for sealing a shaft relative to a casing includes a pair of co-operating seal rings, one of said seal rings serving for non-rotational mounting on the casing and the other for common rotation with the shaft. The seal rings include bores through which the shaft is extended when in operation, and which are held in radial alignment with the shaft by a mounting member which can be inserted in the bores and withdrawn from engagement with the bores by an axial force which can be applied to the mounting member. The seal rings are held in the operational positional relationship of each other by a pair of axially spaced axial stops on the mounting member between which the seal rings are disposed. One of the stops engages the non-rotational seal ring and the other the rotating seal ring. The axial stop engaging the rotating seal ring is held radially resiliently.

  • Publication number: 20040228553
Abstract: An axial plain bearing assembly includes a thrust ring provided for common rotation with a rotary component, and a counter ring provided for mounting non-rotationally on a stationary component. The thrust and counter rings comprise bearing surfaces facing each other, between which a friction-minimizing oil film can be formed during operation. The thrust ring further comprises a radial seal face on an end face thereof remote from the counter ring for cooperating with a radial seal face of a non-rotational seal ring of a mechanical face seal assembly for forming a seal between said thrust and non-rotational seal rings. Accordingly the thrust ring is multi-functional in that it provides for an axial support of the rotary component and simultaneously acts as a rotating seal ring of a mechanical face seal assembly.

  • Publication number: 20030122314
Abstract: A biasing means of a face seal device for applying a bias force between a pair of co-operating seal rings includes a pair of axially spaced support elements and a bias spring disposed between and supported by said support elements. The support elements are axially movable relatively to each other. Protruding means are provided on one of said support elements, with which the other support element can engage for limiting the axial movement of the support elements in a direction away from one another. The protruding means are spaced from the one support element by an axial distance larger than a predetermined maximum axial operational spacing the support elements can occupy after installation of the biasing means on the face seal device, and smaller than the axial length of the bias spring in a relaxed state.

  • Patent number: 6325380
Abstract: A face seal assembly comprises a pair of co-operating seal rings of which one is provided for mounting on a rotary component and the other on a stationary component. The seal rings have substantially radially aligned seal faces between which during operation a seal gap is provided for sealing a zone peripherally outward of the seal faces relative to a zone peripherally inward thereof. A plurality of peripherally spaced recesses effective for pumping a gas are provided in at least one of the seal faces, said gas recesses extending from one periphery of the seal face towards, but the of ends said recesses being radially spaced from, the other periphery thereof. A surface area ratio FGFA/FG g in a range between 0.35 and 0.65, preferably 0.4 and 0.6 is provided on the seal face having said gas recesses. FGFA is the total surface area of the gas recesses as a projection onto the seal face, and FG is the total surface area of the seal face.
