  • Patent number: 4917873
Abstract: In order to clean gases containing noxious components by contacting the gases with a solid material layer adhering to carrier bodies, the solid material layer is applied to the carrier body by wetting with an impregnating solution and then drying the solution on the carrier bodies. After being used up by reaction with the gases to be cleaned, the solid material layer is removed from the carrier bodies, after which it can be replaced by wetting with impregnating solution and drying again. The carrier bodies are stationary and the impregnating solution is trickled over them. Once the carrier bodies are wetted, irrigation with the impregnation solution is interrupted and the solution is dried on the carrier bodies. When the gas reaction at the solid material layer thus formed weakens, the stationary carrier bodies are re-irrigated with impregnation solution and dried. After many repeated impregnations the solid material layer is washed away by flushing or flooding the carrier bodies with a wash solution.

  • Patent number: 4915922
Abstract: Oxides of nitrogen can be removed from waste gas flows containing NO and er oxides of nitrogen by contact of the waste gas with a solid material layer that can be washed off and regenerated, without leaving detectable residues of NO in the cleaned gas. In order to improve the separation of NO.sub.x with diminution of residual NO, the solid material layer is provided with a reagent for oxidizing NO and for binding NO in the solid material layer in oxidized form. Permanganate, especially potassium permanganate, is particularly well suited to be the oxidizing component of the solid material layer. If the gas to be cleaned includes nitrogen oxides other than NO, an alkaline additive is mixed with the permanganate in preparing the solid layer.

  • Patent number: 4278645
Abstract: A method of cleaning hot gases, especially industrial waste gases, accord to which the gases to be cleaned are passed between plates or discs rotatable about an axis and arranged in spaced relationship to each other, e.g. spaced from each other by a few millimeters. At least one component to be separated from the gases to be cleaned is adapted to form a compound with a layer of a solid substance which has been deposited upon the surface of the plates as a liquid, especially as an aqueous solution, and has been dried. The solution forming the layer of solid substance is sprayed upon the plate surface or at least portions thereof. After reaction of the layer of solid substance with the gases, the layer of solid substance is at least partially withdrawn from the gas space between the respective adjacent plates.

  • Patent number: 4036597
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for purifying gases, especially industrial waste ases, according to which a solid surface layer adapted to adsorb impurifications is formed on rotatable discs of which successive portions during the rotation of the discs temporarily protrude from a liquid containing container. This layer, when being contacted by the gas to be purified, adsorbs the impurifications and harmful substances of the gas. The exhausted portion of the surface layer is replaced successively by a new surface layer portion formed by wetting the disc portions when the latter pass through the liquid in the container.
