    Abstract: A device in the form of a self-centering steady rest for clamping or holding workpieces on a machine tool is provided. Three holding members are supported in a separate, intermediate member that is disposed in a housing and is displaceable therein, toward and away from a workpiece, by means of a piston. Formed in the walls of the housing are control cams by means of which the outer holding members are pivotably guided via adjustment movements of the intermediate member.
