  • Patent number: 11926874
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for identifying, assessing, preventing, and treating cancer (e.g., head, neck, and/or lung cancers in humans). A variety of PD-L1 isoform biomarkers are provided, wherein alterations in the copy number of one or more of the biomarkers and/or alterations in the amount, structure, and/or activity of one or more of the biomarkers is associated with cancer status and indicates amenability to treatment or prevention by modulating PD-1 and/or PD-L1 levels.

  • Publication number: 20100176953
Abstract: An orientation system for a visually impaired user which includes a base station and a handset; said base station is attached close to an item that the user wishes to orientate themselves to; the base station is configured to emit a beam which is unable to penetrate solid objects and which has a centreline; the handset is configured to detect the beam and generate an output which the user can use to determine the edges of the beam and thus orientate approximately with the centreline.

  • Publication number: 20080126235
Abstract: An Investment System (Vehicle) invests or holds an ownership interest in real property, receiving income from the property for the benefit of the underlying owners in the Vehicle. The Vehicle offers fractional ownership interests to investors owning real property which are exchanged for an ownership in the Vehicle. Such exchanges obtain deferral of gains from appreciation in the value of the property, which would otherwise be taxable, by complying with the provisions of IRC section 1031. The Vehicle provides investors the ability to execute subsequent exchanges of ownership interests in the Vehicle, at the discretion of the exchanging owner, for a separate replacement property representing a more desirable investment. The Vehicle Sponsor facilitates such subsequent exchanges, via either a replacement investor that acquires the ownership in the Vehicle or by purchasing the exchanging owner's interest. Purchases could be financed using a liquidity facility or line of credit established for such purpose.

  • Publication number: 20050108084
Abstract: Methods, systems, and processor instructions to determine a first direct cost associated with at least a partial implementation of a business decision, the first direct cost including at least one of productivity gains and losses, determine a second direct cost based on a non-implementation of the business decision, the second direct cost based on the productivity gains and losses, determine a first risk reduction associated with at least a partial implementation of the business decision, the first risk reduction based on a business relationship risk(s), determine a second risk reduction associated with a non-implementation of the business decision, the second risk reduction based on the business relationship risk(s), and, associate the business decision with a value, the value corresponding to a sum between differences of: (i) the first direct cost and the second direct cost, and, (ii) the first risk reduction and the second risk reduction.

  • Patent number: 6393411
Abstract: A secure funds device for use with a computer system, such as a personal computer, for transferring funds, in response to a funds transfer request for amounts of funds from the computer system, to a funds receiver. One or more electronic cash devices store electronic funds and transfer funds in response to funds transfer request when authorized by an authorization signal. A processor is used for connecting the funds transfer request from the computer system to the electronic cash device and for transferring electronic funds from the electronic cash device to the computer system when the authorization signal is present. User control means, including for example a pushbutton switch and an LCD display, that is not accessible by the computer system is used for providing the authorization signal. The secure funds device has a secure interface that prevents the computer system from generating the authorization signal.

  • Patent number: 4308137
Abstract: Self-contained treatment apparatus for a body of water includes a mounting assembly having flotation elements for fixedly supporting a circulation or agitation device below the surface of the water and driving or motor mechanism above the water surface. Actuation of the motor mechanism operates the circulation or agitation device such that naturally occurring oxygen-saturated water near the surface is drawn downwardly and mixed with the lower oxygen deficient reaches of the body of water and effecting a net increase in dissolved oxygen content. Optionally, actuation of the motor mechanism operates a bubble generator adjacent the water surface so that the air bubbles generated are drawn down with the oxygen-saturated surface water, where oxygen from the bubbles dissolves into the surrounding oxygen-deficient water, thus accelerating the improvement in dissolved oxygen content.

  • Patent number: 4292540
Abstract: The invention is an energy-saving means for providing turbulence as well as circulation to liquids in a controlled natural purification system for advanced waste water treatment and algae farming. The wind-powered impeller-mixers are used in the algae growing reactors of a controlled natural purification system. The invention consists of a vertical vane type windmill that turns an impeller blade to cause turbulence in waste water being treated. The impeller blade may be geared to operate from a horizontal position to a vertical position to provide circulation movement. A motor-generator hook-up is combined with windmill-impeller system so that generated energy may be stored for use in turning the impeller blade when there is no wind or not enough wind to operate the system. A clutch arrangement is used to disengage the impeller when the algae growing reactor is to be drained.

  • Patent number: 4000757
Abstract: A bistable fluidic amplifier having high gain is disclosed. Power fluid is upplied through an inlet port and lobe-shaped feedback cavities downstream provide an oscillating differential pressure or flow between a pair of outlets. A pair of opposed control ports are provided between the inlet port and the feedback cavities and a differential control pressure or flow applied to the control ports creates a differential outlet pressure or flow having a gain in the range of 10-15.

  • Patent number: 3978724
Abstract: A fluidic angle-of-attack sensor for providing a differential output propional to the angle-of-attack of flow impinging on the sensor. An excitation flow nozzle discharges into a coanda-effect cavity which opens into a centrally oriented impingement cavity so that excitation flow penetrates and impinges on the ambient flow field. A pair of output ports alternately intercept part of the excitation stream to provide a differential output pressure. When the sensor is pointed across the flow field, the flow field augments the coanda effect in bending the stream one way while opposing it in bending it the other way to provide a differential output pressure proportional to angle-of-attack.
