  • Patent number: 7684155
Abstract: A disk drive comprises a disk drive base, an actuator rotatably coupled to the disk drive base, a magnet disposed adjacent the actuator, and a latch. The latch is coupled to the disk drive base. The latch includes a latch body, a retention bore, a seating cavity, and a biasing ball. The retention bore extends into the latch body along a bore longitudinal axis. The retention bore includes a ball entrance defining a ball entrance diameter. The seating cavity extends from within the retention bore into the latch body. The seating cavity has an interior dimension perpendicular to the bore longitudinal axis greater than the ball entrance diameter. The biasing ball is disposed at least partially in the retention bore and at least partially within the seating cavity. The biasing ball comprises a magnetic material and has a ball diameter greater than the ball entrance diameter.

  • Patent number: 7274534
Abstract: A disk drive includes a disk drive housing having a breather hole and a separate leak testing hole, both the breather hole and the leak testing hole being formed through the disk drive housing, and a drive sub-component attached to a surface of the disk drive housing so as to form an interface between the sub-component and the surface of the housing. The interface defines an interface outer perimeter and a sealed airflow testing channel in fluid communication only with the leak testing hole to enable a non-destructive detection of leaks at the interface. The airflow testing channel may be disposed within the interface outer perimeter.

  • Patent number: 6757132
Abstract: A disk drive is disclosed comprising a head, a spindle motor having a hub, the hub comprising a cylindrical shaft, the shaft defining a generally cylindrically-shaped outer surface, the outer surface defining a latching member extending around at least part of the circumference of the shaft. A disk is positioned on the spindle motor and an actuator moves the head radially over the disk. A disk clamp clamps the disk to the spindle motor. The disk clamp comprises a ring-shaped body comprising an outer ring-shaped surface abutting the disk, and an inner neck spaced-apart from the outer ring-shaped surface, the inner neck comprising a plurality of independently flexing teeth for contacting the latching member.

  • Patent number: 5617272
Abstract: A magnetic fluid seal is provided located in an L-shaped holder for defining the location of the seal relative to the shaft and bore. The magnetic seal is located inside the knee of the L-shaped holder, with a small magnetic fluid filled gap between the end of the magnetic seal and the fixed shaft. Immediately below the pieces and magnet of the magnetic seal is a gasket which provides for an airtight seal between the edge of the L-shaped holder and the outer wall or rotor. The entire assembly is held reliably in place by a shield which is typically press-fitted in place.

  • Patent number: 5313128
Abstract: In summary, the present invention is a flexible printed circuit that eliminates the need for lead wire routing. The flexible printed circuit of the present invention comprises a plurality of electrical paths surrounded by a sheath of pliable MYLAR (polyester film) plastic. One side of the plastic is an adhesive that holds the circuit in place after it is wrapped around the shaft of the motor. On the other side, the mylar sheath opens to expose the ends of each electrical path. Small amounts of solder are pre-deposited at these exposed ends. A probe, suitably heated and applied to these ends, releases the solder to form a electrical and physical contact.

  • Patent number: 4110068
Abstract: An electrophotographic copier having a hot roll fuser assembly. This assembly is slidably supported by a pair of rails. When the fuser assembly is locked into its fusing position, within the copier, it is relatively inaccessible for purposes of inspection, cleaning and/or jam clearance. In its withdrawn, inoperative position, a single manually operable jam clearance handle is operator accessible. Manual actuation of this handle, from a folded to an extended position, is effective to move both a sheet peeler or detach bar, and a sheet transport channel away from the fusing nip. When the handle is moved back to its folded position, the sheet detach bar and transport channel are accurately positioned, and locked in an operative position closely adjacent to the downstream side of the fusing nip, so as to aid in release of the sheet from the fusing nip, and to guide the sheet away from this nip.
