  • Patent number: 4936398
Abstract: A drill bit for earth boring purposes includes a drill bit body which is rotatable about a drilling axis, a single cutting member mounted rotatably on the body and a counter-reaction member also mounted on the body. The counter-reaction member extends partially downwardly from the body and includes first and second outwardly exposed surfaces. The first surface has a greater surface area than the second surface and is at least partially formed with a circumferentially disposed curvature and a longitudinally disposed curvature with respect to the drilling axis so that it can closely conform to and contact the curvature of the bottom of the hole formed by the drill bit. The first surface of the counter-reaction member acts as a friction pad to counteract the torque effects of rotating the drill bit about the drilling axis and the cutting member engaging in the ground.

  • Patent number: 4670007
Abstract: The invention is concerned with controlling fluid delivery by a fluid dispensing system in which fluid is dispensed from a container, through a delivery tube, under the control of a flow controller or peristaltic pump and, particularly, with the control of the rate of fluid delivery to a patient by an intravenous infusion system utilizing a standard administration set. The control apparatus continually monitors the weight loss of the fluid container, as fluid is dispensed, and produced data identifying the actual fluid delivery rate. It compares this data with a signal identifying the selected delivery rate and provides for adjustment of the flow controller or pump so as to conform the actual delivery rate to the selected rate.

  • Patent number: 4604034
Abstract: Control apparatus for a stepping motor driving a peristaltic pump comprises a presettable downcounter for supplying drive pulses to the stepping motor at different repetition rates so as to regulate the speed of rotation of the motor, processing means for controlling the downcounter so that the motor is normally operated to drive the pump at a predetermined pumping rate, and a sensor for detecting indexing marks at spaced positions about the pump head, the processing means being responsive to the sensor detecting the index marks to alter the count in the downcounter so as to increase the motor speed for a predetermined number of motor steps upon detection of each index mark. After the predetermined number of steps at increased speed, the processing means resets the downcounter to its normal setting, so that the motor operates at the required pumping rate for a further predetermined number of motor steps and until detection of the next successive index mark of the head.
