Patent number: 8680387Abstract: Generating a musical composition from one or more portions of one or more performances of one or more musical compositions included in a database is disclosed. The method and system include selecting a portion of a pre-recorded composition based on a degree of similarity with the component of the composition that is input; portions that are musically similar but not musically the same as the component may be selected for addition to the composition. The degree of similarity may be based on a ChordScore and/or a ScaleScore of the retrieved portion of the pre-recorded compositions. A ChordScore is generated by comparing chord tones of one or more chords in the pre-recorded portion with chord tones of the input component. A ScaleScore is generated by comparing tones of one or more notes in the pre-recorded portion with tones in a harmonic scale associated with the input component's chords.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2011Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Inventor: Peter Gannon

Publication number: 20090260507Abstract: A system and method for generating a new composition based on a database of pre-recorded performances of existing compositions. A system and method for generating an automated method for converting existing performances and associated MIDI transcriptions to a database and generating a new composition from the database. Musical improvisations are performed by musicians, in digital audio format. The digital audio data is transcribed to MIDI data and stored in a song file. The tempo, chord symbols used and key signature are input, and added to the song file. The digital audio file is analyzed and markers for the start and the end of phrases are added in a phrase marker text file. The system analyzes the MIDI transcriptions, chords, and phrase marker text. Information about sections and phrases of the solo from the phrase market text are stored in a “Riffs” file.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 5, 2008Publication date: October 22, 2009Inventor: Peter Gannon

Patent number: 6017439Abstract: A liquid mixture is efficiently separated using a separating membrane against which the liquid is sprayed, the membrane being intermittently heated to increase separation without subjecting the liquid mixture to high heat. The method is suited to flammable, toxic and temperature sensitive liquid mixtures.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1998Date of Patent: January 25, 2000Assignee: The University of QueenslandInventor: Raymond Peter Gannon

Patent number: 5990407Abstract: A system and method for generating new musical improvisations, based on a database of existing improvisations. An automated method for converting the existing improvisations to a database and generating a new improvisation from the database. Musical improvisations are performed by musicians and stored in MIDI Data format. The Chord symbols used and key signature are input, and added to the improvisation. The system analyzes the performances, and information about sections and phrases of the solo are stored in a "Riffs" file. The musicians' original performances, the chord symbols and the Riffs files are combined into a Soloist Database File, consisting of one or more improvisations. An Options file is created by the user to control parameters about the solo to be generated. The system then generates a new improvisation based on any input chord progression and key, and the Options file, by choosing portions of the Soloist Database to construct the new improvisation.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1996Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: PG Music, Inc.Inventor: Peter Gannon

Patent number: 5951871Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating liquid-liquid mixtures such as temperature sensitive mixtures, the method converts the liquid mixture into a spray and sparys the mixture against one side of a membrane. This process improves separation.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1997Date of Patent: September 14, 1999Assignee: The University of QueenslandInventor: Raymond Peter Gannon

Patent number: 5840393Abstract: The present invention relates to a printable flexible sheet comprising heat fusible particles and a carrier phase for said particles. The present invention also relates to a method of modifying a heat fusible surface in which the printable flexible sheet is printed with ink, applied to the surface of the substrate. The substrate is then heated such that at least some of the particles and some of the ink fuses to the surface of the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1997Date of Patent: November 24, 1998Assignee: The University of QueenslandInventor: Raymond Peter Gannon
