  • Publication number: 20220264907
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for obtaining a protein from a plant material, wherein the method comprises the steps of i) mechanically disrupting the plant cells to obtain a plant juice in the presence of a reducing agent, ii) treating the plant juice to cause aggregation of chloroplast membranes, iii) removing the aggregated chloroplast membranes by precipitation and/or microfiltration, iv) subjecting the plant juice to ultrafiltration, and v) subjecting the soluble plant protein concentrate to hydrophobic column adsorption to remove residual chlorophyll, phenolic compounds and off-odors in a single column passage. The present invention also pertains to an apparatus and system for plant protein isolation based on this method. The isolated proteins can be economically obtained in batch scale and in large scale. Further, the invention is directed to a protein obtained by the method of the invention, a food product comprising thereof, and a use thereof.

Inventors: Earl Lawrence Vincent Goetheer, Peter Geerdink, Ikenna Sunday Ngene, Leo Jacques Pierre Van Den Broeke
  • Patent number: 9283522
Abstract: The invention is directed to a process for separating liquid mixtures, which includes passing a liquid stream of the liquid mixture over a membrane, the membrane being selective for at least one of a first compound and a second compound, whereby at least part of the liquid stream passes through the membrane leaving the other side of the membrane as a vapor, with the remainder of the liquid stream forming a retentate stream, and condensing the vapor on a condenser surface having a lower temperature than the liquid stream to give a distillate stream, the condenser surface forming a non-permeable heat conducting separation wall between the distillate stream and a cooling stream which cooling stream is a) a feed stream, or b) the retentate stream.

  • Patent number: 8791176
Abstract: The invention is directed to a process and apparatus for carrying out reactions with reaction mixtures comprising different physical phases. In a first aspect, the present invention is directed to a process for carrying out chemical reactions comprising a step wherein a reaction mixture comprising at least two different physical phases, wherein at least one of these phases being liquid, is subjected to the action of Dean vortices, which Dean vortices result from said liquid flowing through a channel having at least two curvatures, wherein the channel comprises for at least a fraction of its total length a smooth inner surface.
