  • Patent number: 6937018
Abstract: An imaging system including at least one pole piece is described. The at least one pole piece includes at least two grain-oriented sheets that are stacked together, where a direction of easy magnetization of a first of the at least two grain-oriented sheets is different than a direction of easy magnetization of a second of the at least two grain-oriented sheets.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 31, 2003
Date of Patent: August 30, 2005
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: William Daniel Barber, Bulent Aksel, Peter George Frischmann
  • Patent number: 6626228
Abstract: A system and method for repairing turbine components. The system includes means for obtaining a rapidly solidified material having a means of forming a rapidly solidified repair material and a means for melting the rapidly solidified repair material at a repair site located in a region of the turbine component. The means for obtaining the rapidly solidified material include melt spinning, planar flow, and melt extraction systems. Means for melting the rapidly solidified repair material include a welding torch, an electron beam, a laser beam, a welding torch, a TIG welder, and a plasma torch.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 29, 2000
Date of Patent: September 30, 2003
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Bernard Patrick Bewlay, Peter George Frischmann
  • Patent number: 6252405
Abstract: An MRI system includes a magnet which produces the main polarizing magnetic field. Variations in strength of this field are corrected by a temperature compensation system that calculates a compensating flux needed to maintain the field at constant strength. The compensating flux is calculated from changes in sensed magnet temperature and a magnet temperature coefficient. One or more correction coils are wound around the magnet and driven with the current necessary to produce the compensating flux.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 15, 1999
Date of Patent: June 26, 2001
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Ronald Dean Watkins, William Daniel Barber, Peter George Frischmann
  • Patent number: 6097750
Abstract: A cold hearth for an electroslag refining crucible includes a floor above which a melt pools. The floor includes a drain for draining the melt by gravity. A plug is deployed inside the drain to block discharge of the melt therethrough, and an actuator is attached to the plug for withdrawing the plug from the drain to permit drainage of the melt upon startup.
