  • Patent number: 11398750
Abstract: A power distribution grid for a facility, such as a data center, is located within the facility. The power distribution grid includes a plurality of power transport elements arranged in a grid pattern and nodes located at intersections of the grid pattern. Electrical loads are supplied power via respective nodes of the power distribution grid. Also, each node is supplied power from more than two transport elements, such that one or more transport elements can fail and electrical loads connected to a particular node associated with the failed transport elements continue to receive electrical power supplied to the particular node from at least two different transport elements.

  • Patent number: 11221154
Abstract: A system for passively exhausting air from a structure includes at least one pair of modules arranged on a roof of the structure. Each module has an exhaust face on one side and a sloped surface on the opposite side, and can receive exhaust air that flows upward from inside the structure. The modules can be arranged in pairs facing one another, with one of the sloped surfaces facing a direction of an environmental flow of air, so that the environmental air can flow up the sloped surface of one module and down the sloped surface of the other module without impinging on the exhaust faces of either module. The pairs can also be arranged side-by-side in an array, which can be expanded with additional pairs of modules to exhaust from the structure at a greater rate.

  • Patent number: 11133705
Abstract: An internal cooling grid is mounted internal to a facility, such as a data center, and includes a plurality of fluid transport elements arranged in a grid pattern with nodes at intersections of the grid pattern. Supply and return manifolds included in the nodes receive (and return) cooling fluid from/to more than two transport elements. Thus, a failure of one or more transport elements does not prevent a node from being supplied cooling fluid from at least a first transport element and a second transport element. In some embodiments, the cooling grid may be operated at a pressure less than one atmosphere, such that any leaks that occur cause air to leak into the cooling grid instead of cooling fluid leaking out of the cooling grid.

  • Publication number: 20210218625
Abstract: A portable data center is configured to be transported with installed computing devices between a first location and a second location. A tethered networking device of the portable data center can be deployed to provide a consistent interface for connecting computing devices at a first location with computing devices of the portable data center. Large quantities of data stored in the computing devices at the first location can be transferred to computing devices of the portable data center and the portable data center storing the transferred data can be transported to a second location where the stored data is transferred from the portable data center to one or more computing devices at the second location.

  • Patent number: 11026350
Abstract: A modular computing system for a data center includes one or more data center modules including rack computer systems. An electrical module is coupled to the data center modules and provides electrical power to computer systems in the data center modules. The data center modules do not include any internal active cooling systems and cannot be coupled with any external active cooling systems. A data center module directs ambient air to flow into intake air plenums extending along intake sides of the rows of racks, through the rows of racks into exhaust plenums extending along exhaust sides of the rows of racks, and out into the ambient environment to cool computer systems in the racks. Directed airflow can be lateral, vertical, at least partially driven by air buoyancy gradients, at least partially induced by air moving devices internal to computer systems in the rows of racks, thereof, etc.

  • Patent number: 10834838
Abstract: A data center infrastructure module enables multiple data center infrastructure systems to be simultaneously installed in a data center (as opposed to sequentially installing the respective data center infrastructure systems). The data center infrastructure module includes a collapsible frame and one or more data center infrastructure system components coupled to the collapsible frame. The data center infrastructure module may be pre-assembled remotely from a data center location and may be transported to the data center location in a collapsed state. • Patent number: 10831251
Abstract: A switching assembly selectively routes power received from upstream power distribution systems over power transmission lines to a downstream electrical load using data signals communicated to the assembly from the power distribution systems over the power transmission lines. The switching assembly monitors information in the data signals to determine conditions in the upstream power distribution systems. The switching assembly can use the conditions in the power distribution systems and monitored power feed characteristics of power received at the switching assembly to determine whether to command a switching mechanism to switch the power feed routed to the load. Power system conditions can be used to adjust tolerance thresholds against which power feed characteristics are compared to determine whether to command a switch. The switching assembly can include an interposer device that controls the switching mechanism based on analysis of data signals received over the power transmission line.

  • Patent number: 10826321
Abstract: A power busway tap box with integrated uninterruptable power supply (UPS) functionality is enabled. A busway may be utilized to distribute electrical power throughout a data center. A busway tap box may incorporate one or more components providing UPS functionality. When the busway is distributing alternating current (AC) power, the tap box may incorporate a rectifier, an electrical energy storage device (e.g., a lithium-ion battery), and an inverter. The tap box may keep a substantially conventional form factor, or an extended form factor to accommodate larger electrical energy storage device sizes. The busways may run overhead in a data center and the tap boxes may physically couple with the overhead busways and be disposed beneath them. By distributing the UPS functionality throughout the data center, the impact of UPS failures may be lowered and/or environmental maintenance costs may be reduced.

  • Patent number: 10813252
Abstract: A data center may include a tape library rack module along with rack computer systems. The rack computer systems may be configured to provide computing capacity within a data center environment. In some embodiments, the tape library rack module may include an enclosure encompassing an interior of the tape library rack module, a rack within the interior, and a tape library unit mounted on the rack. The tape library rack unit may include tape cartridges configured to store data within a tape environment that is different than the data center environment. The tape library rack unit may be within a portion of the interior that is enclosed such that it is environmentally isolated from the data center environment. In some examples, the tape library rack module may include a cooling unit and/or a humidifier unit, which may provide the tape environment to the environmentally isolated portion of the interior of the tape library rack module.
