  • Publication number: 20240020614
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and procedure to introduce “entanglement”, a novel metric to measure how synchronized communication between team members is. This measure calculates the Euclidean distance among team members' social network metrics timeseries which is validated with four case studies. The first case study uses entanglement of 11 medical innovation teams to predict team performance and learning behavior. The second case looks at the e-mail communication of 113 senior executives, predicting employee turnover through lack of entanglement of an employee. The third case analyzes the individual employee performance of 81 managers. The fourth case study predicts performance of 13 customer-dedicated teams by comparing entanglement in the e-mail interactions with satisfaction of their customers measured through NPS.

  • Publication number: 20230410000
Abstract: The present invention discloses an advance study, with aim to investigate how organizations can effectively manage individual and team ethical behaviors—exemplified by bees and ants—while avoiding unethical ones—as exemplified by leeches. To this purpose, the impact of behavioral and emotional traits on group performance are measured, with a focus on the role of ethical behaviors in determining real-world success. Based on three different contexts, the findings indicate that exhibiting moral values, being fair, being open to others and new things, and caring for others, correlate positively or negatively with success depending on the tasks. This study also contributes to the theories and practice of ethical decision-making by proposing the adoption of a new methodology based on computational social science that links ethical behaviors with business outcomes. The limited sample of individuals represents the main limitation of the study.

  • Publication number: 20090187559
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for determining the changes in valuation of an asset of interest and then using high or low betweeness centrality values as an indicator for near term future changes in asset value. The present invention searches a broad set of electronically based documents, such as Web pages, blog entries, and online forum posts that are relevant to the asset of interest, in a manner that identifies the interlinking characteristics between the documents. It also weights query terms (=asset of interest) by information retrieval metrics, and calculates the sentiment of their context.

  • Publication number: 20080091672
Abstract: A method and system for searching a broad set of electronically based unrelated documents in a manner that identifies the interlinking characteristics between the documents returned via several iterative levels of search results is provided. The interlinking characteristics are then analyzed using a betweenness centrality algorithm to calculate the relative strength of the interlinking relationships in order to identify and create the shortest search paths that lead a user to results having the highest betweeness centrality or having the highest relevance to the stated query.

  • Publication number: 20070276775
Abstract: A system is provided that takes as input the interrelationships which are observed between identified resources, and automatically generates interactive movies that depict a visualization of the of the interaction patterns among the identified resources. Each resource is represented as a dot. A line between two dots indicates a relationship. The closer the two dots are placed together, the more intensive is their relationship, that is, the more commonality or interaction those resources share. Further, the most active resources, namely the resources that have the most relational links or lines extending therefrom, are placed in the center of the network. Once the visualization movie has been built, a user can search for groupings of related resources by simply searching for and identifying the various clusters within the network.

  • Publication number: 20070214137
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for producing a combined analysis and visualization that calculates both the ties between actors based on a weighted average of the number of messages exchanged and the weighted number of common terms in the messages exchanged. In addition, another link is calculated based on the number of common terms collected from all of the messages sent by either of the two actors to or from any other actor. Within this framework, a link weight is defined ranging from 0 to 1 and a term weight is inversely defined ranging from 1 to 0. As this weighting value is changed, the visualization is dynamically shifted between placing emphasis on common communication links or common terms.

  • Patent number: 5580636
Abstract: Joining of two elements of aluminum or aluminum alloys, where at least one element is the outer layer forming a part of a composite. The connection is made via a weld bead made by fusion welding at least one outer layer of the one element to the second element. The invention is particularly well suited for manufacturing complex, mechanically stable, load bearing structures of any desired shape that contain composites. The invention also concerns the method for fusion welding composites in which the preparation of the weld bead area is of decisive importance.

  • Patent number: 4964839
Abstract: A drive shaft connectable to a motor or geared motor and including a coupling arrangement attachable to tool shafts of rotating tools having, for example, heads for milling, polishing or grinding, so that easy handling of the tools is accomplished in processing small pieces of work and in beauty treatment applications while permitting easy connection to and rapid change of the tools with the coupling element. The drive shaft consists of flexible steel wire of circular profile, or of flexible steel wire with several concentric layers of wire wound around a core of flexible steel wire and having a circular profile and which is disposed in a tightly wound coiled tube made of synthetic material or steel wire. A tubular housing is attached to the coiled tube on the side away from the motor and in which a cylindrical coupling element is disposed, so that it can be rotated. A permanent magnet is secured in the coupling element whose rear end is firmly attached centrically to the forward end of the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 4530454
Abstract: A device for driving nails and similar fastening elements includes a driver rod performing a reciprocating stroke-like movement for placing the nails. A rotating driving element transmits the driving power to the driver rod so that it carries out the stroke-like movement. During the nail driving operation, the rotating driving element is coupled with the driver rod by a carrier. The carrier is secured to the driving element and moves along an elongated path in converting the rotational movement of the driving element into the stroke-like movement of the driver rod.

  • Patent number: 4205728
Abstract: A suction attachment for use with a drilling tool includes a muzzle part forming an opening through which a drill bit extends into contact with the material to be drilled. The muzzle part has a suction aperture communicating with the drill bit opening and a suction tube connected to the suction aperture. The suction tube includes a venturi tube section having a transverse plane of smallest cross-section spaced from the suction aperture. Extending from the transverse plane is a connecting passage which terminates at its other end in a suction recess formed in the surface of the muzzle part which faces the material to be drilled. The partial vacuum generated at the venturi tube section is transmitted through the connecting passage to the suction recess for holding the attachment on the material to be drilled.

  • Patent number: 3997096
Abstract: In an explosive charge-driven setting gun used for inserting fastening elements, a piston is axially displaced through a piston guide chamber by the gases generated when a cartridge is exploded within the rearward end of the chamber. To cool the setting gun at least one opening is provided from the piston guide chamber so that the heated gases generated when a cartridge is exploded can be removed after the gases have started the axial movement of the piston. The gases can be directed into the atmosphere creating a suction effect so that cooling air is drawn into the piston guide chamber. Alternatively, the gases can be cooled by passing them through a heat exchanger located externally of the chamber and then returning the cooled gases into the chamber.
