  • Patent number: 8898898
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a piston for an internal combustion engine, wherein a section which in the finished piston has a cooling duct (14) and a piston ring groove is recessed at first, the later cooling duct is then covered, and finally material for accommodating the piston ring is applied, and which is characterized in that the later cooling duct is covered by a wire material which is provided in a length, greater than necessary for one single piston. A device for producing a piston for an internal combustion engine with an at first recessed section that in the finished piston has a cooling duct (14) and a piston ring groove, has a device for attaching a cover on the cooling duct and a device for providing wire material having a length greater than necessary for one single piston.

  • Patent number: 8430077
Abstract: In a method for producing a piston for an internal combustion engine, at least the region of the upper annular groove is at least partially recessed, an adhesion promoter layer containing aluminum is then applied, a wear-resistant layer is thermally sprayed onto said adhesion promoter layer and at least the upper annular groove is at least partially formed in said layers. The invention also relates to a piston for an internal combustion engine that comprises a base material, an adhesion promoter layer that contains aluminum and is applied to at least some regions of said material and a wear-resistant layer that is thermally sprayed onto said adhesion promoter layer. At least the upper annular groove is at lest partially formed in said layers.

  • Patent number: 6479165
Abstract: There is disclosed a material wire for wear-resistant and trobologically favorable shaped bodies manufactured by the arc spraying method, which comprises a covering (12) and a filling (14). The covering (12) comprises an alloy based on aluminium with at least one further alloy component, for example magnesium or manganese. The filling (14) comprises further alloy components for the resulting alloy of the shaped body, for example silicon. The filling (14) may apart from the silicon also comprise further components, for example aluminium and/or boron. By way of this the composition and the material properties of the resulting alloy of the shaped body may be set.

  • Patent number: 6354259
Abstract: A method for the manufacture of a cylinder liner for combustion engines and a cylinder liner which can be manufactured by the method according to the invention are disclosed. The method comprises a thermal spray-deposition, such as by an arc spray-deposition process, of a wearing layer on a supporting body and a spray-deposition of a protective or connecting layer on the wearing layer. The wearing layer comprises a hypereutectic aluminum-silicon alloy and the protective or connecting layer comprises a hypoeutectic aluminum-silicon alloy. A melt retarder of iron, for example, may be interposed between these two layers. The melt retarder comprises a higher melting temperature than the two aluminum-silicon alloys, thereby preventing the wearing layer from partially melting when the cylinder liner is cast into a cylinder bore.
