  • Publication number: 20060008846
Abstract: Members of the TGF-? superfamily control many physiologic and pathophysiologic processes in multiple tissues and signal via type II and type I receptor serine kinases. Type II activin receptors are promiscuous and known to bind 12 TGF-? ligands including activins, myostatin, BMPs and nodal. Methods are described for the screening and identification of antagonist for TGF-? superfamily members, in particular activin-A antagonist.

  • Publication number: 20050246433
Abstract: A method of capturing video from a target computer to update a remote computer's video with the video output of the target computer. The new video frame comprises a series of new frame pixels to be captured The method comprises (A) receiving for comparison a new frame pixel from the series; then (B) comparing the new frame pixel to a corresponding reference frame pixel; then (C) if the final new frame pixel has not been captured, repeating steps A and B for the next new frame pixel in the series.

  • Publication number: 20050208045
Abstract: Cripto, a developmental oncoprotein, antagonizes activin and TGF-b signaling by forming a complex with activin and TGF-b and their type II receptors. This complex precludes the formation of a functional activin/TGF-b.type II.type I complex, thereby blocking the signaling of activin and TGF-b. Cripto may be generally capable of blocking antiproliferative Smad2/3 signals and provides a novel mechanism of oncogenic action with multiple therapeutic implications. Inhibiting the formation of Cripto and activin/TGF-b complex may enhance antiproliferative effects of activin and TGF-b.

  • Publication number: 20050106380
Abstract: Gas generating and releasing articles consisting essentially of a polymer and a gas generating solid dispersed therein are described. The article generates and releases a gas in response to moisture and in the absence of an acid, a polymer that degrades to produce an acid, a compound that generates an acid in response to humidity, a hygroscopic compound, and an oxidant. The article may also generate and release a gas in response to energy.

  • Patent number: 3944799
Abstract: A computer, for use with a machine tool, can make any of a number of calculations involving ratios between two operands to determine the angular velocity of the spindle of the machine, the velocity and position of a movable member such as a carriage, and the ratio between two velocities. Any of such calculations is selected by means of a selector switch and a second selector switch is settable to select a time base for the calculation. The operands are represented by pulses produced by transducers associated with movable members of the machine tool.
