  • Publication number: 20070253470
Abstract: A technique for arranging a receiver device (20) includes equally spacing adjacent rake receivers (26-30) within an observation window (OW). A disclosed technique for updating an observation window includes changing the position of one of the rake fingers (24, 30) while maintaining a position of other ones of the rake fingers. The disclosed technique for arranging rake fingers in a receiver device (20) does not depend on searching and tracking channel conditions and reduces computational complexity without sacrificing receiver performance.

  • Publication number: 20060140256
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for measuring a reception quality on a wireless communication link to a receiver by removing a bias in a plurality of received pilot symbols and obtaining a channel estimate for a channel, such as a wireless propagation channel, after substantially removing the bias. For a receiver, such as a rake receiver disposed in a base transceiver station, a bias removal module may extract a plurality of coefficients from a wireless propagation channel to remove a bias before a detector may receive the plurality of pilot symbols in the data stream to determine an error rate of the received pilot symbols where channel estimation is based on the received pilot symbols. In this manner, a systematic flaw in a link quality measurement based on an error rate of the received pilot symbols may be resolved for wireless communication systems.

  • Publication number: 20050235192
Abstract: At the receiver in a wireless communications system, the likelihood of a false CRC pass that can occur when a weak received signal produces an all ZERO output from a convolutional or a turbo decoder is minimized. To prevent an all ZERO output, a convolutional decoder selects from among those determined equally most likely transmitted sequences of bits in a data block one that has a weight greater than the one having the minimum weight. A turbo decoder selects a ONE rather than a ZERO as the value of a transmitted bit in a data block when for that bit a bit value of a ZERO and a ONE are determined to be equally likely.

  • Patent number: 6564058
Abstract: A method for providing adaptive neighbor cell lists for a cellular radio network. In cellular radio networks, handovers are used to hand over a call from one cell to another. To identify possible cells for handovers, neighbor cell lists are used for each cell containing information on neighboring cells. Due to system limitations these neighbor cell lists sometimes do not contain all available neighboring cells. The present invention overcomes this disadvantage by providing a method that allows adapting the neighbor cell lists according to the actual location of a mobile station and the actual reception conditions at the time the mobile station is operative. The method provides a first part of the neighbor cell list containing information on fixed neighbor cells, and it provides a second part of the neighbor cell list containing information on varying neighbor cells.
