  • Patent number: 9081727
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program are provided for loading files during a boot-up process. In the context of a method, the method includes identifying at least one new file to be loaded in a computing device during a boot-up process of said computing device. Also, determining if loading at least one of the identified new file(s) causes the computing device to crash. Also, updating a list on the computing device in dependence on whether the loading of the identified new file(s) causes the computing device to crash. Also, loading at least one file in the computing device during a boot-up process in dependence on the list, to prevent the computing device crashing during the boot-up process.

  • Publication number: 20110099270
Abstract: A communications device, such as a mobile telephone, fixed line telephone, computer with network access, or any other similar device which is equipped to communicate using network and/or telephony protocols, is provided, wherein before a call or other communications sessions is set up and made, a determination of the present time at the intended recipient of the call or session is made. In some embodiments, this determination of the time at the intended recipient's location is displayed to a user of the calling device to allow the user to decide whether to proceed with a call to the intended recipient. In other embodiments the determined time is compared with a set of one or more predetermined time bands during which calls to a recipient should not be made. Depending on the results of the comparison, the operation of the communications device is altered, for example, in one embodiment the call is not made, and the user preferably informed.

  • Patent number: 7854683
Abstract: A system for controlling a torque converter clutch in a vehicle powertrain includes a controller having an input for receiving powertrain operating parameter information. The controller is configured to determine a torque converter speed ratio based on the powertrain operating parameter information and to compare the speed ratio to a specified speed ratio limit. The controller is further configured to determine a target torque converter slip when the speed ratio exceeds or meets or exceeds the specified speed ratio limit; to compare the target slip with a desired slip value based on an vehicle noise, vibration or harshness (NVH) limit; and to control torque transmission of the torque converter clutch based on comparison of the target slip and the desired slip value. A method for controlling a torque converter clutch is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20080231908
Abstract: A method is provided for classifying and prioritizing facsimiles comprising: accepting a facsimile comprising image data; classifying the facsimile in accordance with a predetermined classification scheme based on the data comprising the facsimile; determining, based on the classification, at least one characteristic of an output of the facsimile; and outputting the facsimile in a user readable format. Also provided is a system for classifying and prioritizing facsimiles comprising: a machine for accepting a facsimile comprising image data; a processor for classifying the facsimile in accordance with a predetermined classification scheme based on the data comprising the facsimile, and determining, based on the classification, at least one characteristic of an output of the facsimile; and a device for outputting the facsimile in a user readable.
