  • Patent number: 9211577
Abstract: An extrusion press for making profiles of nonferrous metal has a ram, a hydraulic piston/cylinder assembly for moving the ram, a pump connected to the assembly for pressurizing same, and an electric motor connected to the pump for driving same. A multiphase source of electricity is connected via a controller to the electric motor for a soft start of the motor.

  • Patent number: 4636235
Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing an optical fiber comprising forming a tubular glass body having at least one doped layer, at least one concentric layer, each layer having a different index of refraction, and a hollow center. The glass body is heated until the softening point is reached, and is then drawn into a glass fiber. During drawing, a partial vacuum is maintained in the hollow center of the tubular glass body, the partial vacuum being of sufficient magnitude to reduce the evaporation of doping material from the interior of the tubular glass body and thereby effectively prevent a reduction in the index of refraction in the center of the optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 4636236
Abstract: A process is disclosed for making a preform from which optical fibers may be drawn, comprising forming a tubular glass body having a hollow center and concentric layers, at least one layer being a doped layer, and each layer having different indices of refraction. A partial vacuum is formed within the interior of the tubular glass body, at least part of the glass body is softened by heating, and the softened portions of the tubular glass body are collapsed to form a preform. The pressure of the partial vacuum is selected to effectively eliminate a dip in the index of refraction of any glass fiber drawn from the preform.

  • Patent number: 4521945
Abstract: A bulking device for making loop yarn, comprising a base with a blowing chamber, a pin insert with a yarn feeding channel and a jet insert with a yarn delivery channel, followed by a diffusor having resonance chamber just behind the inlet cross section from the yarn delivery channel.

  • Patent number: 4321843
Abstract: A process for the production of drawing die bores, especially in hard metal or carbide wire drawing dies, wherein each bore has an inlet cone portion on the feed side of the die and a cylindrical calibrating portion along a common axis, the process being a two-step grinding and finishing procedure with a cross-grinding of the inlet cone in a first step and a calibrating grinding and finishing of the cylindrical portion in a second step. Especially preferred apparatus is described for each of these steps, with devices to operate in an automatic or semi-automatic manner to manufacture the finished drawing dies.
