  • Patent number: 5453655
Abstract: To securely and reliably hold a high-voltage, for example service-line voge (110 V, 220 V) halogen incandescent lamp within an outer envelope (2), and forming an electrical connection terminal to a screw-in, or straight-wall tubular base sleeve (3a, 43a) of a standard base, for example of the E14 or of the B22d type, a punched sheet-metal element (5, 5', 5", 25, 48, 48') is clamped around a projecting end portion (1a, 20a, 41a, 41a') of the halogen incandescent lamp; the projecting end portion, preferably, is a pinch seal, and the punched sheet-metal element is formed with a lower part and an upper part, in which the upper part clamps around or against the pinch seal. The lower part is partly located within the base sleeve and mechanically, and preferably electrically secured thereto. The pinch seal, preferably, is formed with a transversely extending rib, and the clamping portion is formed with a matching locating notch to ensure axial retention of the halogen lamp in the base.

  • Patent number: 5339002
Abstract: To permit rapid adjustment of a holder structure (4) within which a singlnded pinch-sealed light source, for example a halogen incandescent lamp (1, 2) is retained, to a positioning or locating element having an optical reference surface (17a) to accurately align the light emitting element (2) of the light source with respect to an optical system, for example a reflector, a tubular adjustment sleeve (10) is provided into which the holder structure is fitted. The tubular adjustment sleeve has an essentially cylindrical portion (11) and a slightly conically converging portion (12) or an inwardly extending rim or ring (12') to permit rotational, axial and tilting adjustment of the holder structure to which the light source (1) is coupled with respect thereto. The tubular sleeve is formed with a laterally projecting flange (14, 14a) formed with a plane, burr-free engagement surface (14b) which fits against an auxiliary plane, flat reference surface (18b) on the positioning or locating element (15).

  • Patent number: 5229683
Abstract: To facilitate manufacture, assembly, and save material, a halogen incandent lamp (1) is secured to a plastic base (6) by a carrier or attachment element (3) which is formed of a single unitary element in form of a collar or cuff (4) of essentially rectangular cross section, surrounding the pinch or press seal of the lamp. The cuff is formed with internally projecting spring elements (17) in the form of flaps or the like, which are formed with notches engaging ribs (19) or similar suitable projections formed on the pinch seal of the lamp. First and second side walls of the essentially rectangular, in cross section, cuff or collar portions overlap, and the side walls are connected together by interengaging projections and slits, bent over at the corner of the rectangular cuff or collar portion.

  • Patent number: 5010272
Abstract: To provide a compact structure in which a base core (17, 48) can be fitted nto a metallic base sleeve (9, 40) to which a holding structure (4, 7, 34) of a halogen incandescent lamp can be attached, the base core or the sleeve are formed with interengaging rim - engagement surfaces, and the base sleeve, further, is formed with projecting tabs which engage over or into the base core, through slits and recesses formed therein, to hold the base core in position; the base sleeve is additionally formed with a positioning or locating ring or plate (10, 44) so that the lamp holding structure (4, 7, 34) can be welded to the base sleeve to accurately position the filament of the lamp with respect to the locating plate or ring so that the filament can be located with respect to the focal point of a reflector, the tabs permitting compensation for tolerances in the base core, which may be substantial when made of ceramic material.

  • Patent number: 4950942
Abstract: To permit ready attachment of a pinch or press seal terminating a halogen incandescent lamp, particularly for automotive use, a base sleeve (9), for example of steel, is formed as a hollow cylinder having, at the end remote from the bulb, at least two spaced flange elements (28) extending radially inwardly of the sleeve and essentially at right angles to the axis of the lamp. A base plug element, formed as a solid body, for example of highly heat-resistant plastic material, is located projecting from the base sleeve, and positioned remote from the bulb. The essentially cylindrical solid body (29) is formed with a circumferential collar of smaller outside diameter, and separated from the remainder of the solid body by a circumferential ring groove.

  • Patent number: 4795939
Abstract: To permit connection of a high temperature resistant plastic material forg a bulb holder element (4, 15, 20) to which a light bulb (1, 14, 19) is attached in the tubular opening of the base structure (5, 16), the bulb holder element is essentially barrel-shaped to permit alignment of the bulb with respect to the base structure, and subsequent connection by welding together the plastic base structure with the plastic bulb holder element by exposure to a high-frequency field. To cause melting of the plastic, ferromagnetic material, typically a nickel-iron alloy, is located between the bulb holder element and the base structure, for example in form of a ring (11) snapped into a groove (12) formed on the holder element.

  • Patent number: 4789920
Abstract: To permit use of materials having different melting temperatures and still rovide a two-component base for a lamp operating at high temperature, for example a halogen incandescent lamp, the base includes a base cup (5) of high heat-resistant plastic material, connected to an attachment element (13) by interengaging snap-in spring fingers (15) and recesses (9,10). To prevent separation of the attachment element from the base cup, the spring fingers are located inside of a solid wall portion of the attachment element and the base cup is formed with projections (8, 11) for example a circumferential flange or bead, extending over the spring fingers when they are snapped into matching recesses formed in the base cup so that, after assembly, the connection cannot be loosened, either inadvertently or deliberately.

  • Patent number: 4609977
Abstract: To provide an easily made electrical connection between current leads (3, ) extending from a halogen incandescent lamp (1, 21) through a base cup (7, 27) and connecting blades (10, 30), an attachment element (12, 32) is formed with a wall portion (12a, 32a) which, together with the bottom wall (7a) of the base cup defines a chamber, in which chamber the electrical connections between the terminal prongs (10, 30) and the current supply leads (3, 23) are formed. Openings (8) through which the current supply leads extend are sealed, for example by melting down plastic material of which the base cup (7, 27) is formed, or by pouring a resin, for example a silicone rubber resin, in the chamber (13, 33) after having made the connection, to fill the openings, seal the openings, and coat the electrical connections which, typically, are made by welding. The chamber can be entirely filled with resin, if desired.

  • Patent number: 4595859
Abstract: To permit insertion of a lamp-socket combination into a fixture which includes a plate-like portion (P), for example a printed circuit board, a plastic socket (2) is provided which is formed with a recess (6), preferably a through-bore, into which two separating walls (8) extend, which are resiliently outwardly deflectable and have inwardly extending locating ridges (9) which can, after deflection radially outwardly upon insertion of the lamp (1), snap back against the base (4) of the lamp to engage over locating projections (5) formed on the base of the lamp. Terminal strips (7) are inserted in the base at the opposite sides of the separating walls (8), which defines chords of the cylindrical opening (6), the opening providing access for weld-connection of the electrical terminal leads (3) from the lamp to the terminal strips (7).

  • Patent number: 4412273
Abstract: To permit introduction of a halogen incandescent lamp into a reflector, in ealed relationship thereto, a plastic end portion (2c) of the base (2) of the lamp is secured to a metal sleeve, for example of steel, which is telescopically connected to an adjustment cap (2a) in which the bulb (1) is seated. After adjustment of the position of the bulb, so that the filaments will emit light in a predetermined pattern with respect to the base, the adjustment cap and the sleeve are welded together. The plastic portion includes a groove (9) in which a sealing ring (10) for example of silicone rubber is placed, the plastic element including therebeyond a positioning or seating flange (11). The plastic end portion, thus, can readily be assembled with a glass reflector, the sealing ring (10) providing for a moisture tight seal against, for example, a glass reflector.
