Abstract: An apparatus is provided for making a plurality of spherical products such as, for example, meat balls. The apparatus includes a plurality of rectangular compartments, each of the plurality of compartments having sidewalls and at least one open face to allow for the capture of deformable material. The captured material is shaped by translational movement of the compartment over the material. The plurality of compartments is juxtaposed to form a grid having sidewalls consisting of the outer sidewalls of the compartments situated at the periphery of the grid and consisting of a substantially open face with a plurality of intersecting walls.
