  • Patent number: 7470639
Abstract: Nonwoven fabric laminates suitable for use as semipermeable membrane supports are produced by forming a spunbond nonwoven fabric first layer of continuous thermoplastic polymer filaments; forming a wet-laid nonwoven fabric second layer of discrete length thermoplastic polymer fibers; and bonding the first and second layers in opposing face-to-face relationship to form a composite support, where the first and second layers define first and second outer surfaces of the composite support. The resulting semipermeable membrane supports provide an advantageous balance of properties, including smoothness, porosity, interlaminar adhesion, and flux properties.

  • Publication number: 20080023385
Abstract: In one embodiment, a nonwoven filtration medium is provided comprising substantially continuous sheath/core bicomponent filaments arranged to form an open, porous, fluid permeable spunbond nonwoven fabric. The core component of the filaments comprises polyester or polypropylene and the sheath component comprises polyethylene having a melting temperature less than the melting temperature of the core component and including an organic antimicrobial agent incorporated therein. A multiplicity of bond sites are distributed uniformly throughout the fabric and defined by regions where the lower-melting sheath component has softened and flowed together at filament cross-over locations, with the individual being filaments spaced apart from one another except at the filament cross-over locations. The spunbond nonwoven fabric preferably has a thickness of about 10 to 40 mils and an air permeability from 150 to 270 cfm/ft2/min.

  • Patent number: 7051883
Abstract: Nonwoven fabric laminates suitable for use as semipermeable membrane supports are provided. The fabric laminates generally include at least two layers: a spunbond layer of continuous filament fibers and a wet-laid layer of discontinuous filaments. The resulting semipermeable membrane supports provide an advantageous balance of properties, including smoothness, porosity, interlaminar adhesion, and flux properties.

  • Patent number: 6171443
Abstract: A high-opacity cellulose-free synthetic paper is formed from a wet-laid nonwoven web of thermoplastic fibers, all or most of which fibers are made of a predetermined polymeric material. The wet-laid web is dried to remove excess water, drying being carried cut at temperatures below the melting temperature of the predetermined polymeric material. The dried nonwoven web is saturated on at least one side with a pigmented binder forming a continuous coating thereon. The binder is cured at temperatures below the melting temperature of the predetermined polymeric material.

  • Patent number: 5800884
Abstract: A gloss coating composition comprising radiation curable oligomers and monomers, and photosensitizers in a homogeneous mixture having a viscosity in the range of 4500 to 8000 cps; wherein the presence of the photosensitizers causes polymerization of the radiation curable oligomers and monomers when exposed to an ultraviolet light source. The coating composition is applied to at least one surface of a substrate and exposed to an ultraviolet light source resulting in curing of the composition onto the substrate surface without substantial penetration into the substrate surface forming a gloss coated substrate.

  • Patent number: 5616384
Abstract: An in-mold label material is a nonwoven mat of fibers having one side fused with the outer surface of a polymeric container and the other side coated with a pigment-containing latex suitable for printing thereon. The label paper is manufactured from commercially available fibers combined in water into a homogeneous mixture and then formed into a mat employing a wet-lay process. For use with polyethylene containers, the label may be a web consisting of 88-100% polyethylene fibers and 0-15% polyvinyl alcohol fibers or 70-100% polyethylene fibers, 0-15% polyvinyl alcohol fibers and 0-30% polypropylene fibers. For use with polyester containers, the label may be a web consisting of 50-90% polyester staple fibers, 10-40% bicomponent polyester/co-polyester, core/sheath binder fibers and 0-10% polyvinyl alcohol binder fibers thermally bonded together. The nonwoven web of fibers has a pigmented coating.

  • Patent number: 5595801
Abstract: A shielding system for an enclosure wherein strips of shielding material including a layer of metal, for example, metal foil or gauge metal, are placed on the walls of the enclosure in an overlapping or abutting relationship, with shielding tape between the overlapped portions or overlying the butted seam. The shielding tape preferably consists of an electrically conductive nonwoven mat of entangled fibers which is laminated on one side to metal foil and which is bonded on the other side to the metal substrates using nonconductive adhesive. The entangled fibers penetrate the nonconductive adhesive and contact the surface of the metal substrate to provide an electrical continuity that seals the seam against leakage of electromagnetic radiation.
