  • Publication number: 20080293393
Abstract: System and method for providing information regarding broadcast content, such as advertising, commentary, music, or sports, to a wireless device. A preferred embodiment comprises sending a broadcast station identifier and a user identifier to a host server. The host server identifies the station and retrieves a list of content for the station. The content list is sent as a playlist to the wireless device for display to a user. The user identifies desired content and the host server sends specific information about the content to the user, such as a telephone number or webpage for an advertiser. The user can connect directly to the telephone number or webpage from the wireless device.

  • Publication number: 20030223437
Abstract: A local access node, such as a cable television network node, is configured to recognize a subscriber terminal wishing to gain access to a data network. The locals access node obtains subscriber information, including an identification of a data network service provider, from the subscriber terminal. The subscriber information is forwarded to the data network service provider identified by the subscriber information for authentication purposes. If authenticated, the subscriber terminal is connected to the data network via the local access node. Upon termination of the connection, the local access node sends data network connection information to the data network service provider for billing and revenue sharing purposes.

  • Patent number: 6553022
Abstract: A voice network node is configured to recognize the receipt of a non-routable data network access number, which may be in the form of X11, which is dialed from a subscriber terminal wishing to gain access to a data network. Either the voice network node alone, or in combination with other network nodes, requests subscriber information, including an identification of a data network service provider, from the subscriber terminal. The subscriber information is forwarded to the data network service provider identified by the subscriber information for authentication purposes. If authenticated, the subscriber terminal is connected to the data network via one of the voice network nodes. Upon termination of the connection, a voice network node sends data network connection information to the data network service provider for billing and revenue sharing purposes.

  • Publication number: 20030018704
Abstract: A mobile network presence and location (NPL) agent detects and gathers user presence and location information and provides a generic interface to applications which require the information. The NPL agent comprises a pull agent, a push agent, or both. The pull agent receives requests for presence or location information about mobile devices on a wireless network from remote applications over a computer network. In response, the pull agent sends corresponding requests to a remote entity, such as a Short Message Service Center (SMSC) associated with the wireless network, which queries the Home Location Register (HLR) of the wireless network for the requested information. The remote entity returns the requested information to the pull agent, which decodes it and subsequently provides the information to the remote applications. The push agent publishes presence or location information to applications without requiring applications to request the information.

  • Patent number: 6317594
Abstract: A system and method of for exchanging information between a wireless network and an external system is disclosed. The wireless network detects trigger events related to communications with wireless subscribers. Certain event triggers cause the wireless system to create a message and to send that message to the external system. In response the external system may respond by sending data or information to the wireless system. The messages created by the wireless system may be in the form of query messages. The wireless system may create messages for the external system upon detection of handoff, origination, status, registration or other activity by the wireless subscriber.

  • Patent number: 6304753
Abstract: A telecommunication network node which integrates the voice and data services provided to a wireless mobile unit. The network node receives a request for information along with a voice network identification of the mobile unit via the signaling portion of the voice network. The network node performs a database lookup to determine a data network address of the mobile unit. This data network address may be a permanent data network address or a temporary data network address. The network node sends the information request to a data network service provider, whereby the request may be enhanced with information added by the network node. Upon receipt of the requested information from the data network service provider, the network node forwards the information to the mobile unit via the data network using the data network address.
