  • Patent number: 6275697
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing coordination of radio equipment. The apparatus may be used with any apparatus that is to be rendered inactive outside of a predetermined geographic area. The apparatus is equipped with a receiver for receiving a radio signal on a beacon frequency and for generating an enabling signal indicative of the presence of the radio signal. In the absence of the enabling signal, the apparatus is prevented from operating. The present invention is particularly well suited for providing coordinatible radio transmitters. The beacon signal is sent from an antenna in the geographic area in which the apparatus is permitted to transmit. The beacon signal includes a code which must match a code stored in the apparatus. In one embodiment of the present invention, the beacon signal also includes an authentication signature to prevent fraudulent beacons from improperly enabling equipment.

  • Patent number: 5594781
Abstract: A method for transferring an active connection between a mobile telephone handset and a first mobile telephone system to a second mobile telephone system, which includes the steps of detecting that signal strength of the active connection has fallen below a predetermined threshold; sending a request to the first mobile telephone system to set up an alternative connection from the first mobile telephone system to the mobile telephone handset through the second mobile telephone system; and transferring the active connection to the alternate connection.

  • Patent number: 4322722
Abstract: An intrusion detection apparatus including a sensor for sensing an objectionable interference phenomenon within a detection area and developing a pulse train coincident therewith, signal processing circuitry responsive to the pulse train and operation to actuate a Gunn diode microwave generator or the like in a pulsed manner causing it to transmit microwave energy into the detection area in synchronism with the interference phenomenon, a microwave receiver for detecting microwave energy reflected from the detection area and for developing detection signals indicating motion within the monitored area, and further signal processing circuitry responsive to the detection signal and operative to actuate an alarm or the like.
