  • Patent number: 11745498
Abstract: A digital printer and a method of controlling the digital printer having a print head with an array of printing elements and a failure detection system arranged to detect malfunctioning printing elements. When, during printing, a malfunctioning printing element is detected, a switch from the current print strategy to another print strategy is arranged during printing which leaves the number of passes per swatch constant, i.e. the print quality is not affected by the switch.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 12, 2021
Date of Patent: September 5, 2023
Assignee: CANON PRODUCTION PRINTING HOLDING B.V.
    Inventor: Peter J. M. Aarts
  • Patent number: 11571915
Abstract: The invention relates to an ink jet printer having a print carriage, a curing unit and a holder arranged to move a recording medium relative to the carriage assembly in a sub-scanning direction, wherein the print carriage is movable in a main scanning direction normal to the sub-scanning direction, and a print head unit arranged on the print carriage for printing a swath of an image onto the recording medium in each scan pass of the print carriage, the print carriage further having a mirror assembly arranged to deflect light from the curing unit onto an exposure area on the printed swath.

  • Publication number: 20200316966
Abstract: A method for controlling an inkjet printer is provided. The printer comprises a reciprocating print head that applies a curable ink on a substrate in an at least two-pass print process. A print mask is applied to determine which dot positions are addressed in a pass of the print head. The ink is positionally fixed in a fixing step directly after application and cured in a curing step on a part of the substrate where the application of ink is completed. The level of fixing is adjustable and an amount of clustering of pixels in the print mask related to a print mode, associated with the level of fixing, is varied in dependence on the level of fixing.
