The automated gemstone evaluation system further includes a processor, which determines a pricing estimate and generates an evaluation report. The evaluation report is communicated to the user via an output device, and preferably includes a summary description of the qualities of the gemstone. The system and method further allow for the input to be received from a user located remotely and for the output to be returned to the remotely located user.
