    Abstract: A latch assembly for a decompression panel in an aircraft includes a base and a swing arm hinged to the base and pivotable relative to the base about a hinge axis between a latched position and an unlatched position. A load pin fixed to the swing arm has a pin axis a fixed distance from the hinge axis. A spring secured to the base is positioned to exert a spring force against the swing arm when the swing arm pivots from the latched position to the unlatched position. A bracket securable to the decompression panel defines a slot retaining the load pin when the swing arm is in the latched position. The load pin is movable in the slot under relative motion of the bracket and the base with the swing arm in the latched position, and exits the slot when the swing arm pivots to the unlatched position.

    Abstract: A latching system includes a guide body, and a latch rod slidably retained by the guide body. Latch assemblies fixed to the latch rod, are spaced apart from one another, and independently biased to a latched position. A first rod-biasing spring is coaxial with the latch rod and disposed between the guide body and a first latch assembly. The first rod-biasing spring biases the latch rod to a rest position corresponding with a latched position of the latch assemblies. Multiple catches are secured at a spacing equal to a spacing of the latch assemblies on the latch rod such that the latch assemblies latch to the catches independently of one another. A force on the latch rod against the first rod-biasing spring moves the latch rod along the longitudinal axis of the latch rod from a rest position to an actuated position and unlatches the latch assemblies simultaneously.

Hinged assemblies having open and closed hinge states are attached to at least two elements of the supporting structure. A multiplicity of clips are bonded to the back surface of the panel. The clips are hooked on respective hinged assemblies while the latter are in their respective open hinge states, whereby the panel is coupled to the at least two elements of the supporting structure with loose fit engagement. Then the hinged assemblies are manipulated so that their respective states transform from open to closed, whereby the panel is attached to the at least two elements of the supporting structure with positive snap fit engagement. No fasteners or tooling are required when installing or removing the panels.
