  • Publication number: 20120185206
Abstract: A method and device for setting a geolocation of a non-GPS enabled device utilizes GPS mapping technology to allow a user to select and set an exact location for a given device within a facility. The method can include obtaining a GPS map of the site where the device is deployed, obtaining a site map of the site, determining the GPS coordinates of at least one of the corners of the site map, overlaying the site map on the GPS map, aligning the at least one corner of the site map with corresponding GPS coordinates on the GPS map, calculating a grid covering the site map, selecting a location on the site map corresponding to the position of the device, and determining the geolocation of the device by calculating the latitude and longitude of said position.

  • Patent number: 7925427
Abstract: In embodiments herein, a desired destination is received from user input as an end location. The embodiments can determine the current position (the beginning location) based on automated positioning and/or user input. Thus, the embodiments can calculate potential routes from the beginning location to the end location and can select one of the potential routes (e.g., the best route). This selected route is output to the user. The potential routes that are selected from comprise mass transit rides.

  • Publication number: 20100157345
Abstract: An assessment authoring system implemented by an operative set of processor executable instructions configured for execution by at least one processor includes a user interface and an assessment generation component. The user interface communicates user input and the assessment generation component receives the user input from the user interface. The assessment generation component generates an assessment data structure for printing on a multifunction device. The printed assessment includes a marking region adapted to receive a human marking. The system may utilize a model or rubric that can be used to score the human marks when are processed by image processing.

  • Publication number: 20100075290
Abstract: A method and system for automatically helping a teacher/educator evaluate assessments administered to students for determining student's attributes. The teacher/educator reviews stored assessment forms at a digital user interface (DUI) at a multifunction device (MFD) and selects the desired forms and creates an Assessment Batch which includes a List of Students to be given the forms for marking. The system automatically codes each form with personalized student information and prints the individualized assessment forms. The teacher/educator administers the assessment and assessment forms are manually marked, collected and scanned at the MFD, entered into storage and the marked images automatically analyzed and the assessments automatically evaluated from stored rubrics and the teacher/educator is automatically notified by email that the evaluation has been performed.

  • Patent number: 7631033
Abstract: A system and method provides automated creation of device resident services. A host computer includes an advertisement listener that receives device service advertisements. One or more service generator processes receive information about the advertised device services and create hosted services acting as proxies for the device services. One or more peripheral devices are linked to the host computer, with each device including a device service. The device advertises the device service to the host computer and provides a device service description describing capabilities of the device and device service to the service generator. A directory service maintains service entries for the hosted services published by the service generators. Clients may search for and select a required service in the directory service table, and the service entries serve as links to the corresponding hosted services which may then be used by the client.

  • Patent number: 5960167
Abstract: A method for automatically configuring a printer in a network is provided. In practice, an unconfigured printer is communicatively coupled to the network and begins transmitting an advertising protocol. In turn, an entry, varying as a function of the advertising protocol is entered into a table. In response to reading the entry, an auto install program creates a set of print related objects and stores them for use with a print service manager. By reference to the objects, the print service manager communicates information to a broker for indicating to a set of network users that print operations can be performed with the previously unconfigured printer.
