For example, a method may include introducing a wellbore fluid into a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation, the wellbore fluid comprising an aqueous base fluid, an activator, and a colloidal high aspect ratio nanosilica additive; placing the wellbore fluid into a portion of the wellbore, a portion of the subterranean formation, or both; and forming a sealant that comprises the colloidal high aspect ratio nanosilica additive therein.
