Patent number: 12689429Abstract: Technologies directed to calculating an array factor for a phased array antenna are described. One wireless device with a phased array antenna receives inputs and defines a first variable in a first coordinate space and defines a set of amplitudes of a one-dimensional or two-dimensional inverse Fast Fourier Transform (IFFT). Each amplitude is based on the third value, an excitation amplitude and an excitation phase or delay of a respective antenna element. The wireless device determines first array factor values in the first coordinate space by computing the one-dimensional IFFT using the first variable. The wireless device performs a spline or linear interpolation to obtain second array factors at points in the physical coordinate space. The wireless device sends the second array factors to digital beam forming (DBF) circuitry that causes the phased array antenna to steer a radiation beam using the second array factor values.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2021Date of Patent: July 21, 2026Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Niki Amini-Naieni, Alireza Mahanfar, Peter James Hetzel

Patent number: 12573754Abstract: Technologies directed to arranging antenna elements in a triangular pattern on an antenna module of a phased array antenna are described. The phased array antenna includes a support structure and a first antenna module coupled to the support structure. The first antenna module element has a rectangular shape and includes a first set of antenna elements arranged as a first row and a second row within the rectangular shape. An antenna element of the first row and two antenna elements of the second row form a triangular pattern. Two adjacent antenna elements of the first set of antenna elements are separated by a first distance. Each antenna element of the first set of antenna elements has a first size that is less than half of the first distance.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2023Date of Patent: March 10, 2026Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Murat Veysoglu, Ming-Chun Paul Lee, Peter James Hetzel, Christopher Steven Merola

Patent number: 12362502Abstract: Technologies directed to a radio frequency (RF) boundary choke between modules in phased array antennas. An antenna module may include a circuit board having one or more conducting layers and one or more electrically insulating layers. The antenna module may include an antenna disposed on a first surface of the circuit board. The antenna module may further include radio frequency front end (RFFE) circuitry disposed on a second surface of the circuit board. The antenna module further includes a first set of vias extending between the antenna and the RFFE circuitry and a second set of vias disposed within the circuit board. Each of the second set of vias is positioned along a first axis parallel to and a first distance from a first edge of the antenna module.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2024Date of Patent: July 15, 2025Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Peter James Hetzel
