Publication number: 20230349728Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method of determining the initialization state of a multi-turn sensor based on the sensor outputs. The method takes a reading of the sensor outputs, and then determines whether the sensor outputs are feasible based on an assumption that the sensor is initialized in one of two states. If the sensor outputs are correct, this initial assumption is taken to also be correct. However, if an incorrect sensor output is read, then it is taken that the assumed initialization state is incorrect. The sensor is therefore taken to be initialized in the alternative state. The method will then determine whether the sensor outputs are feasible based on this second assumption, and if an incorrect sensor output is still being read, then there is a fault in the multi-turn sensor.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 6, 2023Publication date: November 2, 2023Inventors: Peter James Tonge, Monsoon Dutt, Michael Mueller-Aulmann

Patent number: 11460521Abstract: A system includes a multiturn counter that can store a magnetic state associated with a number of accumulated turns of a magnetic field. The multiturn counter includes a plurality of magnetoresistive elements electrically coupled in series with each other and a reference element. The plurality of magnetoresistive elements are formed in a magnetic strip. The reference element is separate from the magnetic strip. A strip width of the magnetic strip and a strip width of the reference element are similar. The plurality of magnetoresistive elements and the reference element can be coupled to a matrix of electrical connections.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2020Date of Patent: October 4, 2022Assignee: ANALOG DEVICES INTERNATIONAL UNLIMITED COMPANYInventors: Jochen Schmitt, Peter James Tonge, Colin McIntosh, Wenmei Wang, Monsoon Dutt

Patent number: 9705465Abstract: A control apparatus is provided that can provide high dynamic resolution and is suitable for inclusion within an integrated circuit. The control apparatus receives a demand signal representing a desired value of a measurand, and a feedback signal representing a present value or a recently acquired value of the measurand. The processing circuit forms a further signal a further signal which is a function of the demand and feedback signals. The further signal is then subjected to at least an integrating function. The demand signal, feedback signal or the further signal is processed or acquired in a sampled manner. The use of such sampled, i.e. discontinuous, processing allows integration time constants to be synthesized which would otherwise require the use of unfeasibly large components within an integrated circuit, or the use of off-chop components. Both of these other options are expensive.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2014Date of Patent: July 11, 2017Assignee: ANALOG DEVICES GLOBALInventors: Rares Andrei Bodnar, Patrick Joseph Pratt, Donal Bourke, Peter James Tonge
