  • Publication number: 20140053049
Abstract: The present disclosure describes methods and apparatuses for improved transport block decoding in devices capable of wireless communication, which may include user equipment and network entities. For example, the present disclosure presents methods and apparatuses for decoding a code block from a plurality of code blocks corresponding to a transport block, obtaining a reliability indicator that identifies a reliability of the decoding of the code block, comparing the reliability indicator to a reliability threshold, and determining whether to decode a subsequent code block from the plurality of code blocks based on the comparing. Furthermore, these methods and apparatuses may include determining not to decode at least one subsequent code block of the transport block where the comparing indicates that the reliability indicator is less than the reliability threshold. As such, device power is not unnecessarily consumed by decoding likely superfluous code blocks.

  • Publication number: 20140038645
Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one embodiment, a method of adjusting for digital automatic gain control (DAGC) quantization error in a mobile station is as follows. A first DAGC value is stored before reception of one or more enhanced pilot signals. A second DAGC value is computed during reception of the one or more enhanced pilot signal. • Patent number: 8611325
Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for providing venue-cast service in a wireless access network are disclosed. A local transmitter can request reservation of air link resources on the wireless access network for a venue-cast transmission. The local transmitter can receive a forward link signal with a timing reference for data transmitted on the wireless access network such as, for example, the forward link signal in an EV-DO network or a FLO-based media distribution system. Based on the timing reference, the local transmitter can transmit venue-cast information in a same frequency band as the forward link signal utilizing the reserved air link resources. Optionally, the venue-cast system can include a collocated network repeater and the local transmitter can synchronize its timing and transmit power to the forward link signal from the repeater.

  • Publication number: 20130242826
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses to power off a modem receiver or components of the receiver at a time prior to the end of the frame based on data in the frame being received and properly decoded before the end of the frame. In an aspect, the apparatuses and methods provide power saving in a wireless device, and include receiving data within a frame at a user equipment, determining whether all payload packet data has been correctly decoded prior to an end of the frame, and powering down a receiver component for a portion of a remainder of the frame in response to determining that all payload packet data has been correctly decoded and where a first time period to a next scheduled overhead hit transmission period of a slot in the frame is greater than a second time period corresponding to a warm-up period for the receiver component.

  • Patent number: 8483223
Abstract: Techniques for generating and transmitting packets on multiple links in a wireless communication system are described. In one aspect, a transmitter generates new packets for the multiple links based on the likelihood of each link being available. The transmitter determines the likelihood of each carrier being available based on whether or not there is a pending packet on that carrier and, if yes, the number of subpackets sent for the pending packet. The transmitter generates new packets such that packets for links progressively less likely to be available contain data units with progressively higher sequence numbers. The transmitter determines whether each link is available and sends a packet on each link that is available. In another aspect, the transmitter generates and sends new packets in a manner to ensure in-order transmission. In one design, the transmitter generates new packets for each possible combination of links that might be available.

  • Patent number: 8406774
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein relate to methods and systems for server selection during feedback channel impairment in wireless communications. The feedback channel may be provided by a data rate control (DRC) channel, transmitted from an access terminal to an access network relating the selected serving sector (DRC cover) and the desired data rate (DRC rate) for transmission on forward link. During DRC cover erasure (e.g., due to channel impairment), a data source control (DSC) channel may be used as complimentary information to assist the DRC erasure mapping decision at the access network.

  • Patent number: 8385923
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein relate to methods and systems for providing adaptive server selection in wireless communications. An access terminal may be configured to determine a forward link quality metric associated with each of a plurality of sectors serviced by a plurality of access points; assign credits to each sector in relation to the forward link quality metric; and change a data source control (DSC) value if the credits accumulated for a non-serving sector at a DSC change boundary is greater than a predetermined threshold, where the non-serving sector and the serving sector for the access terminal belong to different cells. The access terminal may be further configured to change a data rate control (DRC) cover in accordance with the DSC change. The use of DSC may provide an early indication of handoff, thereby allowing the service outage associated with server switching to be substantially reduced.

  • Patent number: 8375261
Abstract: An apparatus for data communication that receives a plurality of pulses from a remote communications device, determines a pulse puncturing rate based on the pulses, and punctures or discards subsequent pulses based on the pulse puncturing rate. During intervals when punctured pulses are expected, the apparatus operates in a lower power consumption mode for the purpose of conserving power. In another aspect, a receiving apparatus determines the pulse puncturing rate based on received pulses, and transmits the pulse puncturing rate information to a transmitting apparatus. In response, the transmitting apparatus sends a subset of the pulses it would have transmitted based on the pulse puncturing rate. Because the receiving apparatus receives fewer pulses (e.g., a subset), the receiving apparatus may operate in a lower power consumption mode for longer periods in order to conserve power.

  • Publication number: 20130010780
Abstract: Timing acquisition may be performed without typical correlation computations by determining a power of a received signal at certain points in time and using the determined power to identify gaps in the received signal. By determining gaps in the received signal, frame timing may be estimated, particularly in time-division networks where the location of guard periods within a frame is known. Gap detection may thus be used for timing acquisition.

  • Patent number: 8331385
Abstract: Adaptive De-Jitter Buffer for Voice over IP (VoIP) for packet switch communications. The de-jitter buffer methods and apparatus presented avoid playback of underflows while balancing end-to-end delay. In one example, the de-jitter buffer is recalculated at the beginning of each talkspurt. In another example, talkspurt packets are compressed upon receipt of all remaining packets.

  • Patent number: 8175594
Abstract: Techniques for managing communications in a cellular network are disclosed. The cellular network can include one or more sectors in which hotspot carriers are deployed. The hotspot carriers can be available to mobile devices beyond sector boundaries defined by the signal strength of ubiquitous carriers. A mobile device can measure a signal strength of a candidate hotspot carrier and estimate a reverse link mobile device transmit power level for communicating on the hotspot carrier. The mobile device may determine whether to add, remove, or maintain the hotspot carrier in its active set based on the estimated transmit power level so as to limit interference to the reverse link of non-hotspot sectors.

  • Patent number: 8160596
Abstract: A method and system for providing asymmetric modes of operation in multi-carrier wireless communication systems. A method may assign a long code mask (LCM) to an information channel associated with a plurality of forward link carriers to transmit data from an access network to an access terminal; and multiplex the information channel on a reverse link carrier. The information channel may include one of data source channel (DSC), data rate control (DRC) and acknowledgment (ACK) information, and the multiplexing may be code division multiplexing (CDM). The AN may instruct the AT on whether to multiplex the DSC information based on feedback from the AT. The method may further offset the ACK information on the reverse link to reduce the reverse link peak to average, CDM the information channel on an I-branch and on a Q-branch, and transmit the code division multiplexed information channel on the reverse link carrier.
