Publication number: 20210181064Abstract: A method for estimating a condition of a tire is provided. The tire supports a vehicle and is mounted on a wheel. The wheel is rotatably mounted on an axle. A sensor is mounted on at least one of the tire, the wheel, the axle, and a component of the brake system. Vibrational data is measured with the sensor. The data from the sensor is transmitted to a processor, and the data is processed. The processed data is normalized and at least one of the normalized data and pre-processed data is input into a machine learning model. A condition estimation for the tire is generated, which includes at least one of a tread depth of the tire, a pressure of the tire, and a dual tire mismatch.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2020Publication date: June 17, 2021Inventors: Brandon Charles Kelly, Peter Jung-min Suh, Mark Robert Milliren, Brian Richard Morris, Srikanth Veppathur Sivaramakrishnan

Patent number: 9120356Abstract: Estimating a load bearing on a vehicle tire includes an inflation pressure measuring sensor for measuring tire inflation pressure and generating a measured tire inflation pressure signal; a deformation measuring sensor mounted in a tire region of the vehicle tire, the deformation measuring sensor in the form of a piezoelectric bending sensor generating a deformation signal estimating a length of a tire contact patch length as the senor rolls through a tire footprint. Tire rolling speed is estimated from the deformation signal and a peak to peak amplitude variation within the deformation signal is detected and measured. An artificial neural network receives the tire rolling speed estimation, the contact patch length estimation, the amplitude variation within the deformation signal, and the measured inflation pressure of the tire. The artificial neural network adaptively interprets the input data and generates an output load estimation based thereon.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2012Date of Patent: September 1, 2015Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Amrita Patel, John Michael Fenkanyn, Kanwar Bharat Singh, Peter Jung-min Suh
