  • Patent number: 4997181
Abstract: A wind-drag type exercise rowing unit includes a generally horizontally extending frame on which a wind-drag type flywheel is mounted. A seat and a foot rest unit are fixed on the frame for supporting an operator. A large belt pulley is mounted on the frame and connected to a rope sheave by means of a one-way clutch. An endless belt is carried on the large belt pulley and a small belt pulley which is secured to the flywheel. A rope is wound around the sheave and secured to the same at one end to a handle at the other end. When the handle is pulled away from the sheave, the sheave is rotated in a direction which causes the clutch to unlock the large belt pulley from the sheave. When the rope is released, the sheave is returned to its static position by a spiral spring. The return rotation of the sheave causes the large belt pulley to be locked on the sheave so that the large belt pulley rotates synchronously with the sheave, thereby driving the small belt pulley and the flywheel.

  • Patent number: 4986533
Abstract: An exercise bicycle includes a frame assembly, a front wheel, a rear wheel, an intermediate shaft, two swing levers and two pedals. The front wheel is rotated by actuating the swing levers, while the rear wheel is rotated by actuating the pedals. The rotation of the front wheel and/or the rear wheel is transferred to the intermediate shaft. A resistance generating device includes a driving wheel sleeved rigidly on the intermediate wheel, a rotating shaft journalled on the frame assembly of the exercise bicycle, an input wheel sleeved rigidly on the rotating shaft, an endless driving element transferring the rotation of the driving wheel to the input wheel, a generator creating electric current when the rotating shaft rotates, and a resistance setting device connected to the generator. The resistance setting device adjusts the magnetic resistance of the generator to the rotation of the rotating shaft depending on the intensity of the current signal created by the generator.

  • Patent number: 4953850
Abstract: A wind-drag type exerciser bicycle includes a seat having a back, a drive assembly disposed in front of the seat, a wheel assembly having a wheel with a plurality of wheel blades in front of the drive assembly, and a driven shaft assembly interposed between the drive assembly and the wheel. A chain is trained on the driving sprocket of the drive assembly and the driven sprocket of the driven shaft assembly and is tensioned by a spring-biased tensioning sprocket. A V-belt is trained on the driving pulley of the driven shaft assembly and the driven pulley of the wheel assembly. A freewheel clutch is interposed between the driven sprocket and the driven shaft of the driven shaft assembly so that the wheel can rotate only when the pedals of the drive assembly are propelled forward by the user.

  • Patent number: 4934688
Abstract: A wind-drag type climber includes a base frame, a suspended wheel, a handlebar assembly, two swing arms each carrying a pedal thereon, a driving shaft, and a speed-increasing mechanism interconnecting the wheel and the driving shaft so as to rotate the wheel at a speed greater than that of the driving shaft. The wheel has a plurality of generally radially extending wheel blades which create air impedance to the rotation of the wheel. A drawing member is fastened to the free ends of the swing arms at two ends thereof and has two chain-like sections engaged with the two sprockets of the driving shaft, and a cable-like section extending around two aligned lower pulleys. The sprockets are sleeved rotatably on the driving shaft by unidirectional bearings. Each of the bearings locks the corresponding sprocket on the driving shaft only when the corresponding sprocket rotates in a predetermined direction.

  • Patent number: 4917376
Abstract: An exercise bicycle includes a frame, a crank shaft journalled on the rear portion of the frame, and a wheel axle journalled on the front portion of the frame. Two crank arms are secured to two ends of the crank shaft and carry two pedals. Two swing wheels are secured to two ends of the wheel axle and carry two crank pins on which two sheaves are sleeved rotatably. Two swing levers are mounted pivotally on the front portion of the frame at the lower ends thereof and have lengthwise extending slide slots in which the sheaves are received slidably. A rear driving pulley and a rear driven pulley are sleeved rigidly on a sleeve which is sleeved rotatably on the crank shaft. A mechanism is provided between the crank shaft and the sleeve so as to interlock them when the pedals rotate in a predetermined direction. A front driving pulley is sleeved rigidly on the wheel axle. A front driven pulley and a wheel are sleeved rigidly on a wheel hub which is sleeved rotatably on the wheel axle.

  • Patent number: 4852872
Abstract: An exercise bicycle has a wheel axle which is journalled on a frame. Two swing arms are secured to two opposite end portions of the wheel axle. Two hand operated swing levers are mounted pivotally on the frame at their lower ends. Each of the levers includes an upper lever portion, a lower lever portion, and two parallel rods interconnecting the upper and lower lever portions for defining a slide slot therebetween. Each of the swing arms has a crank pin member on which a sheave is sleeved rotatably. Each of the sheaves has an annular groove of a generally V-shaped cross-section which engages with the arcuated inner side portions of the rods so that the sheave can slide smoothly in the slide slot. A suspended wheel is sleeved rotatably on the wheel axle by a hub. A front pulley is sleeved rigidly on the hub and is connected to a rear pulley by a v-belt. The rear pulley can be indirectly rotated by a user's hands and/or feet.

  • Patent number: 4824102
Abstract: An exercise bicycle has a suspended wheel which is sleeved rotatably on a wheel axle. The wheel axle has a first key-way formed in one end portion thereof, and two opposed second key-ways formed in two opposite sides of the other end portion of the wheel axle. One of the second key-ways and the first key-way are aligned with each other and formed in the same side of the wheel axle. Two swing arms are secured to respective end portions of the wheel axle. One of the swing arms has a first key engaged with the first key-way and the other swing arm has a second key which is selectively engaged with one of the second key-ways so that the first and second keys may be connected to the same side or opposite sides of the wheel axle. Two swing levers are mounted pivotally at their lower ends on a base frame and connected at their upper portions to the respective swing arms. When the swing levers are swung by hand in either the same direction or opposite directions, the wheel can be rotated through a transmission line.
