  • Patent number: 9421703
Abstract: Polymer-based materials and processes suitable for producing panels, for example, panels for use in a fan shroud abradable seal of a turbofan engine. Such a process includes introducing constituents of an expandable foam material into a continuous forming apparatus that continuously compounds the constituents into a partially-cured compounded polymeric material, which is then continuously formed with the continuous forming apparatus to produce a continuous form having a constant cross-sectional shape transverse to a continuous forming direction of the continuous forming apparatus. A portion of the continuous form is then deformed to produce a preform, and the preform is cured within a restricted volume to cause the preform to expand and produce the panel.

  • Patent number: 9371423
Abstract: The present disclosure generally provides methods and apparatus for efficiently crosslinking silicon carbide fiber precursor polymers with electron beam radiation. The methods and apparatus utilize a platform containing silicon carbide fiber precursor polymer. The temperature of the platform is regulated while the silicon carbide fiber precursor polymer is irradiated to thereby regulate the temperature of the irradiated silicon carbide fiber precursor polymer thereon. In this way, the temperature of the irradiated silicon carbide fiber precursor polymer is regulated via the platform both during and after it is subjected to radiation. At least one of the platform and the e-beam radiation mechanism may be translated with respect to the other to irradiate different portions of the silicon carbide fiber precursor polymer and, ultimately, the entirety of the silicon carbide fiber precursor polymer contained on the platform.

  • Patent number: 9070357
Abstract: A method for using speech analysis to detect speech pathologies can begin with registration of a patient with a speech-based health monitor. A speech segment baseline representing an initial state of the patient's speech system can be established for the patient. When prompted, the patient can submit a speech segment representing a current state of the patient's speech system to the speech-based health monitor. The speech-based health monitor can analyze the submitted speech segment using the established speech segment baseline and/or a speech segment history that comprises speech segments previously submitted by the patient. Based upon said analysis, satisfaction of a health alert definition can be determined. A health alert definition can define an action performed by the speech-based health monitor when its associated triggering conditions are satisfied. The action associated with the at least one satisfied health alert definition can then be executed.

  • Patent number: 8816724
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed that provide a radio frequency synthesizer that generates precise frequencies over a large radio frequency range. The radio frequency synthesizer can provide a high resolution of frequency generation and still provide precise frequencies over a range of radio frequencies. The precision and resolution while maintaining a large operating range come from the ability of the frequency synthesizer to generate frequencies as a product of a plurality of moduli. For example, the frequency can be generated from a reference frequency using a first modulus and a second modulus. The plurality of modulo can be implemented using nested digital delta-sigma modulators in a fractional-N frequency synthesizer.

  • Patent number: 8776971
Abstract: The present invention broadly comprises a stator and clutch assembly in a torque converter. The stator has a segment radially disposed between stator blades and a stator axis. The one-way clutch has a plate connected to a hub. The segment forms a portion of the clutch and the stator is axially displaceable to control operation of the clutch. A displacement element urges the stator in a first axial direction. The stator is arranged to move in a second axial direction, opposite the first axial direction, in response to pressure from fluid in the torque converter. In some aspects, the displacement element is selected from the group consisting of a coil spring and a wave spring. In some aspects, the one-way clutch is arranged to disengage when the stator is sufficiently displaced in the first direction and to engage when the stator is sufficiently displaced in the second direction.

  • Publication number: 20140077843
Abstract: The invention provides a digital modulator system for use in a fractional-N frequency synthesizer, said system comprising: a first pipelined modulator configured to receive a digital signal via a bus signal; a second pipelined modulator configured to receive a part of said digital signal; and said system is adapted to split the bus signal by passing least significant bits (LSBs) of said digital signal through the second modulator, combining the output of said second modulator with the most significant bits (MSBs) of said digital signal, and adapted to pass the combined signal through said first pipelined modulator. The combination of bus-splitting and pipelining in the modulator system is configured to provide an output signal to maximize the update rate of a multi-modulus divider of said fractional-N frequency synthesizer.
