  • Patent number: 9516971
Abstract: A flow-through heater for heating a fluid comprises: a high thermal conductivity conduit-defining body shaped to provide, within the conduit-defining body, a helical-shaped or spiral-shaped conduit that extends between an inlet port and an outlet port; and one or more heating elements operatively connected to an exterior of the conduit-defining body for providing heat to the conduit-defining body and to any fluid flowing through the conduit. Because of the high thermal conductivity of the conduit-defining body, all of the surfaces of the conduit-defining body that actually define the conduit contribute significantly to heating the fluid in the conduit. Each conduit-defining surface may contribute to heating the fluid in approximately equal proportion to its conduit-defining surface area.

  • Patent number: 9098584
Abstract: A unified search entity, which provides at least visual query based web searching and an associated mechanism for expressing privacy preferences, obtains, from a requester, a visual query including at least a first facial image. The unified search entity identifies, via facial recognition on the at least first facial image, an identity of an individual subject of the at least first facial image and/or at least a second facial image of the individual subject associated with the at least first facial image. The unified search entity obtains, from the individual, via the mechanism for expressing privacy preferences, a plurality of privacy preferences including a visual query preference. The identity of the individual subject and/or the at least second facial image are communicated from the unified search entity to the requester only if permitted by the visual query preference.

  • Patent number: 8973801
Abstract: A buffer store for a flat web material includes two roller registers having freely rotatable rollers movable relative to one another in a direction radial to a roller axis, thereby forming loops of the web material between the rollers, a piston-cylinder arrangement having a chamber containing a compressible medium and acting as a spring between the registers to generate web tension in the material, and a control-valve arrangement that switches between a first condition, for normal operation, and a second condition, for operation during a fault. In the first condition, the control-valve arrangement connects the cylinder chamber of the piston-cylinder arrangement to a device for providing a constant operating pressure. In the second condition, the control-valve arrangement closes the cylinder chamber of the piston-cylinder arrangement and connects it to a relief valve that relieves pressure therein to a residual pressure significantly smaller than the operating pressure.

  • Publication number: 20140121819
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for designing and manufacturing flank millable components. In one embodiment, devices, systems, and methods for designing a flank millable component are provided, in which a user is notified when a component geometry option is selected that will result in the component not being flank millable. In another embodiment, the user is prevented from selecting a geometry option that would result in the component not being flank millable. In yet another embodiment, devices, systems, and methods are provided for manufacturing a component with a flank milling process, in which optimized machine instructions are determined that minimize milling machine motion.

  • Publication number: 20120042543
Abstract: An apparatus for selectively extending and retracting spikes includes spike actuating assemblies mounted to, and cooperating between, a first plate and a first slider frame, and a second plate and a second slider frame, pivotally mounted to the first plate and first slider frame respectively. Each spike actuating assembly contains a spike. The first slider frame is translatable to actuate the spike actuating assemblies to thereby extend and retract the spikes from the spike actuating assemblies. A cyclically alternating positioner is mounted on the first plate for moving the first and second slider frames relative to the first and second plates. The positioner has only a single actuating button adjacent the heel. Depressing the actuating button a first time causes the positioner to move the slider frames to extend the spikes. Depressing the actuating button a second time causes the positioner to move the slider frames to retract the spikes.
