  • Patent number: 6606020
Abstract: A low cost method of making a high impedance electrical transformer is disclosed as well as products of such method. The method comprises adding a step during the process of winding a transformer component which imparts higher impedance to the transformer employing such component by causing a portion of the total magnetic flux flowing therein to be shunted through a shunt of transformer steel. Such added step includes placing such shunt against a side of the primary coil and winding the secondary coil around both the shunt and the primary coil and also includes using the same coil form on which the primary coil was wound for winding the secondary coil. Such added step produces a high impedance transformer at a significant cost reduction over prior art methods of making a high impedance transformer.

  • Patent number: 4879018
Abstract: A low voltage anodizing process for anodic oxidation of metals in which are used: (i) an anodizing bath containing an electrolyte, an anode and a cathode; and (ii) and AC fed DC power supply for supplying pulsating DC power to the anodizing bath; the anodizing process comprising cyclicly discharging the inherent capacitance in the anodizing bath; such cyclic discharge of such inherent capacitance being accomplished by providing successive power cycles wherein each such power cycle consists of a rise portion followed by a fall portion followed by an off-time portion; and providing a shunt discharge path in electrical circuit across the anode and cathode and being external to the anodizing bath for discharging such inherent capacitance during the last part of such fall portion and all during such off-time portion of each power cycle, a significant fraction of the total anodizing current being shunted across such discharge path which is large enough to completely discharge such inherent capacitance and to empty

  • Patent number: 4476521
Abstract: Improvement in a regulated D.C. power supply having a conventional main transformer with a center tap secondary and rectifying elements, the improvement comprising a buck-boost transformer, and a regulating device, the buck-boost transformer being of the same type construction as the main transformer and also having a center tap secondary, the secondary of the buck-boost transformer being connected in circuit with the secondary of the main transformer and the rectifying elements so that the center taps of the main and buck-boost transformers are utilized as positive and negative output terminals for the power supply, connecting the input of the main transformer to the input of the regulating device and the output of the regulating device to the primary of the buck-boost transformer, whereby a regulated D.C. power output is provided by the buck-boost transformer bucking or boosting the main transformer.

  • Patent number: 4396811
Abstract: Improvement in a D.C. power reversing switch having a base having an insulator plate fast thereon and four spaced apart metal contact plates fast on the top side of the insulator plate, a manually moveable switch plate consisting of a second insulator plate and a pair of spaced apart metal jumper plates fast on the underside of the second insulator plate, a centrally disposed shaft upstanding from the base for rotatably holding the switch plate thereon, the switch having four separate contact areas thereon, the improvement comprising a clamp support fastened to the base, upstanding therefrom, extending over the switch plate and disposed above the four contact areas, and clamps operative between the support arrangement and the switch plate for pressing down thereupon at the centers of the four contact areas for forcing the jumper plates into face to face contact with the four contact plates.

  • Patent number: 4023090
Abstract: In an electrical three phase variable power supply fed by three phase alternating power and having a three coil adjustable autotransformer connected in wye across the power lines, the autotransformer having taps associated with each of its coils for adjustably connecting to different turns thereof, the power supply having at least one neutral joining the coils of the autotransformer, Zagreb circuit method of varying the power output of the power supply, the Zagreb circuit method comprising providing a supply transformer having a three coil primary, corresponding ends of said primary coils connected to the taps, respectively, and arranging the primary coils in relation to the autotransformer alternatively as follows:A. connecting them in delta across the power lines for a high value of output power;B. connecting them in wye across said power lines in parallel with the autotransformer for a low value of output power; andC.
