  • Publication number: 20070109681
Abstract: A magnetic head comprises a plurality of elements selected from a group consisting of readers and writers. A servo sensor is positioned towards the elements, the servo sensor being adapted for sensing a first servo track of a magnetic medium. A fence is positioned towards the servo sensor and aligned therewith in a tape travel direction. A magnetic head in another embodiment includes a substrate and a reader positioned above the substrate, the reader having a sensor and shields sandwiching the sensor. A fence is positioned towards the reader on an opposite side thereof from the substrate, the fence being aligned with the reader in a travel direction of a magnetic medium passing thereby.

  • Publication number: 20070097556
Abstract: A magnetic tape head having an array of reader/writer pairs formed on a common substrate, each reader/writer pair being configured in a piggyback configuration such that the writer and reader of each pair are aligned in a direction parallel to a relative direction of media travel thereover. Each reader comprises a first shield, a second shield, a sensor positioned between the shields, and leads coupled to the sensor. Each writer comprises a first pole and a second pole. A charge clamp circuit electrically couples at least one of the reader shields to at least one of the leads. An electrical conductor operatively electrically couples the at least one of the shields to at least one of the poles.

  • Publication number: 20070091505
Abstract: A magnetic head includes a plurality of generally laterally positioned readers, each reader having a sensor, a lower shield below the sensor, an upper shield above the sensor, and a gap defined between the shields. At least one of the readers has a thicker gap than another of the readers. Methods for making such heads are also presented.

  • Publication number: 20050128638
Abstract: A tape head comprised of a substrate and a closure coupled to the substrate. Read and/or write elements are embedded in the substrate. Contact pads are coupled to the substrate, the pads being in electrical communication with the read and/or write elements. At least one lapping element is embedded in the substrate. Supplemental pads are coupled to the substrate, the supplemental pads being in electrical communication with at least one lapping element. A tape head according to another embodiment includes a substrate, a patterned (e.g. generally U-shaped, rectangular, etc.) closure formed on the substrate, read and/or write elements embedded in the substrate, and two rows of contact pads coupled to the substrate, the pads being in electrical communication with the read and/or write elements.
