  • Patent number: 10329713
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing steam at a digester plant of a chemical pulp mill. Black liquor is discharged from the digester at a first temperature and pressure. The black liquor is treated in a flash tank for generating flashed black liquor and flash steam at a second temperature and a second pressure, which are lower than the first temperature and pressure. The flashed black liquor is taken for further treatment to the evaporation plant. The flash steam is led to an indirect heat exchange contact with clean liquid in the reboiler for boiling the liquid and for generating steam. The steam is led from the reboiler into a fan or compressor for increasing the steam pressure to a third pressure, which is higher than the second pressure and for adjusting the pressure of the steam in the flash tank. Steam at a third pressure is used for pretreating comminuted cellulosic fiber material, such as chips, prior to cooking.

  • Patent number: 6638398
Abstract: A method including evaporating aqueous solutions containing ammonia, adding an acid to the evaporated vapor flow to form an ammonium salt, and condensing the vapor flow to form a liquid containing the salt. By this method the ammonia formed into a salt is not present as an inert gas layer which would impede condensation on the condenser surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6068730
Abstract: A liquid distributor for distributing liquid over the heat transfer surface of an evaporator includes a channel array including one or more supply channels and downwardly deviating distribution channels. Each distribution channel has a step-shaped expansion located downstream with respect to the supply channel and connecting therewith via a sharp point, restricting the liquid suction created in the distribution channel. Sharp points provided in the supply channel or channels further restrict the liquid suction.

  • Patent number: 5927383
Abstract: The method relates to a film heat exchanger and a method for constructing the same. The heat exchanger comprises bags (1) made of film material in order to transfer heat from the steam to be condensated inside the bags to the liquid to be evaporated on the outer surfaces (18) thereof, as well as feed channel arrays for distributing steam (10) and liquid onto the internal and external heat transfer surfaces of the bags. According to the invention, inside the top end (2) of each bag (1), there is provided an essentially straight strip (11) bordering the steam channels (10), to which strip the bag is fastened; in connection with the fastening, the top edge of the bag is pulled straight by bending the bag, so that the middle part of the bag is raised in relation to the sides (12) thereof, and the thus straightened edge is then attached to the strip provided inside the bag.

  • Patent number: 5904807
Abstract: A liquid distributor in an evaporator, intended in particular for the evaporation treatment of liquid suspensions which contain fibers or other such solid ingredients. The distributor comprises, located at the upper end of the heat exchange surface, a transverse frame, liquid conduits disposed therein distributing the liquid over the entire width of the heat exchange surface. According to the invention the liquid conduits are made up of feed conduits slanted obliquely downwards and of distribution conduits branching out therefrom and leading to the heat exchange surface. At the branching points of the conduits their wall surfaces on the downstream side with respect to the feed flow are rounded into curved dividing surfaces by means of which the dividing of the flow is carried out.

  • Patent number: 5775410
Abstract: The invention relates to a heat exchanger wherein the heating vapor is fed onto heat exchange surfaces of membrane material from a vapor distributor, the vapor distributor having parallel conduits for directing vapor over the entire width of the surfaces. According to the invention the vapor distributor is made up of two opposing wall elements which are fastened to each other by means of projections in one element and corresponding recesses in the other element. The upper end of the membrane constituting the heat exchange surface is locked between the projections and recesses that are fastened to each other. Thus, pleats are produced in the membrane as an expansion leeway for the vapor space delimited by the membrane.

  • Patent number: 5770020
Abstract: The invention relates to a distillation apparatus (1) which is suitable in particular for the distillation of sea water into fresh water. The apparatus includes a plurality of flat, bag-like elements (3) formed from a thin film material such as plastic film and placed one against the other, the elements serving as heat exchangers between a vaporizing liquid flowing along the exterior surfaces of the element and a condensing vapor directed to the inside of the element, and a compressor (15) for increasing the pressure and temperature of the generated vapor before it is directed to the inside of the elements. The essential idea of the invention is that at the upper end of each bag-like element (3) there is a honeycomb-structured end strip (4) having substantially the width of the element, the strip containing parallel feeding ducts (26) separated from each other by partition walls, the ducts distributing the liquid to be evaporated over the entire width of the element surface.
