Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for processing cartons that include steps such as embossing the top opening of cartons for packaging liquid food. Embossing the top opening of cartons may reduce the force required to open the carton in both vertical and horizontal direction and minimize the amount of fibers remaining in the pouring spout after the carton has been opened.

Abstract: A package having a corner indent wall includes a plurality of upstanding side walls including a first side wall, a front wall, a rear wall, a second side wall and an indent wall. The first side wall is contiguous with the front wall, the front wall is contiguous with the indent wall which is contiguous with the second side wall, the second side wall is contiguous with the rear wall and the rear wall is sealed to the first side wall. The package includes a sealed bottom wall formed from a plurality of bottom wall panels, each bottom wall panel adjacent a corresponding side wall. The package includes a gable top formed from a plurality of gable panels contiguous with their adjacent gable panels and their respective side walls and separated form their respective side walls by an upper crease line. The upper crease line is straight as separating two of the gable panels from their respective side walls and is curved downwardly as separating two of the gable panels from their respective side walls.

The ends of the gusset panels define triangular tips that are folded away from one another. The sixth panel has a length that is less than or equal to the distance between the gusset tips.

Abstract: A bottom folding assembly is used to form a package having a bottom wall with in-folded gusset tips. The assembly is configured to infold the bottom gusset panels, leading panel and trailing panel of a carton and to in-fold the gusset panel tips of the bottom wall for forming a sealed carton bottom. The bottom folding assembly includes a rotating drive shaft mounted transverse to a turret plane and spaced from a periphery of a turret path. A pair of opposing rotating members are disposed on either side of the rotational path of the turret and are operably mounted to the drive shaft. The rotating members are configured to rotate in a plane that is transverse to the turret plane. A pair of retaining members are operably mounted to the rotating drive shaft and are configured to rotate with the shaft. The retaining members are configured to rotate into an interior of the package and engage the gusset panel tips from the interior of the package.
