  • Patent number: 6933634
Abstract: An improved cooling arrangement for an electric motor in a pump assembly, including a resilient fan baffle having a planar main surface and a pair of wings extending perpendicularly out from the main surface to direct airflow away from the motor when the fan baffle is installed on the motor. A method of installing the fan baffle includes bending two ends of the periphery of the fan baffle to clear obstructions on the motor, and then releasing the ends to allow them to come together in a planar arrangement.

  • Publication number: 20020028103
Abstract: A paint applicator for use in spreading paint over a surface. The paint applicator includes a roller assembly, tubing, and a pump assembly. The roller assembly has a handle portion that is suitable for holding by a user, an arm portion extending from the handle portion, and a roller core removably attachable to the arm portion for rotation with respect to the arm portion. The roller core is adapted to receive a paint applicator thereover. The tubing has a central passage extending therethrough. The pump assembly conveys paint through the tubing to the roller assembly. A method and a corner paint applicator are further included.

  • Patent number: 5472318
Abstract: A pressure relief assembly for use with a paint pump having a chamber with a pressure relief port located immediately adjacent an inlet port of the pump. The pressure relief assembly includes a mounting member, inlet washer, rupture pad and outlet washer. The mounting member is threaded on its exterior surface and includes an inlet end, an outlet end, and a relief passage extending between the inlet and outlet ends. A rupture recess in the inlet end is sized to receive the inlet washer, rupture pad and outlet washer, with the rupture pad positioned between the washers. The inner diameter surface of the outlet washer is convex. The pressure relief assembly is screwed into the pump with the inlet end adjacent to the pressure relief port. The rupture pad forms a seal between the pump chamber and atmosphere that ruptures to vent the chamber when the pressure within the chamber exceeds a predetermined rupture pressure.

  • Patent number: 5174610
Abstract: An apparatus for providing bleed air to exit an air outlet fitting where an air hose is connected to a turbine housing to cool the turbine and outlet fitting. The bleed air is directed through longitudinal channels outside the air hose and to an air diffuser collar where it is deflected to exit the apparatus radially.

  • Patent number: 5078323
Abstract: An improved control shaft seal and air valve for a portable paint gun with the seal having a radial clearance with the shaft except at a shaft sealing surface of limited axial length. The shaft seal has a conical surface radially outward of the shaft sealing surface to provide a sealing surface and also to provide transfer of axial forces at that surface to a radial direction to provide a force to urge the shaft sealing surface against the control shaft. A second conical surface of the seal provides for retention of the seal on an air valve spring when the paint gun is disassembled. An improved air valve for portable paint guns is also disclosed having a rigid axial hub and radial support carrying a relatively flexible rim portion adapted to engage a tapered seating surface in the gun.

  • Patent number: 5054947
Abstract: A self-contained power painting system is provided in which a battery operated motor and pump are contained in a lid for a paint reservoir, and that entire unit is adapted to be carried on a user by a strap or belt. A paint applicator, such as a brush or roller, is connected to the pump by a flexible conduit and includes a switch activator at the applicator to permit the user to selectively control operation of the pump and to move about freely while painting without being emcumbered by a relatively immobile paint reservoir or power source connection through extension cords.

  • Patent number: 4559661
Abstract: A manually operable power unit for paint scraping and the like comprising a casing with a longitudinal axis having a handle to enable portable use by the operator, an electro-magnetic motor mounted within the casing including a stator and an armature mounted relative to the stator for movement parallel to the longitudinal axis, a bladeholder connected to the armature reciprocally movable in unison together, the bladeholder extending generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the casing and the direction of movement of the reciprocating armature to provide contemporaneous colinear movement of the bladeholder and the armature to substantially eliminate bending forces on the bladeholder imposed by the electromagnetic drive forces of the motor, the motor being operable on energization to move the armature and the bladeholder from a starting position to an extended position, and a spring connected to the bladeholder which is compressed when the bladeholder is moved to its extended position and the spring opera
