  • Patent number: 4836558
Abstract: A seal is provided around one or more supply lines, such as pipes, wires or cables, extending through an aperture in a bulkhead. A heat recoverable tubular article having a radially extending flange is recovered onto the supply line. A resilient annular member is held in sealing engagement against the face of the flange. Fittings are positioned over the recovered article to sealingly engage the assembly to the bulkhead aperture.

  • Patent number: 4647718
Abstract: This invention relates to the mechanical and environmental protection of cable joints, especially in power or other current-carrying cables. Disclosed is a recoverable sleeve which conforms closely to the cable joint, and a non-profiled liner which bridges the joint and comprises a plurality of elongate elements assembled into a sheet. Flexible means is provided for holding the elements in a side-by-side arrangement and allowing the separation between the elements to vary to allow the liner to conform to the profile of the cable joint. Such flexible means may extend across the element and provide a water vapor barrier. Disclosed also is a method of protecting a cable joint utilizing the sleeve and liner. Where the cables to be jointed have metal armor, screen and/or shielding, the elements may be fabricated from metal or metal alloy and may then provide both armoring and a fault current path across the joint.

  • Patent number: 4634213
Abstract: Connectors for terminating and splicing high voltage power cables comprise a metallic tubular sleeve having an open end for receiving an electrical conductor and a closed end. The inner wall of the sleeve is pretinned. The sleeve can be provided with a slug of solder proximate to the closed end. A connection is made by inserting the conductor into the sleeve, heating the solder, and as the solder melts, relatively moving the connector and the conductor toward each other. The connector can be provided with an insert to accommoduate conductors that are non-circular in cross-section.The connector can be provided with means for pressuring the slug of solder toward the open end of the sleeve at the temperature at which the slug of solder melts. With this connector, no relative movement between the conductor and the connector is required. Merely by melting the solder, the means for pressuring causes the solder to extrude around the conductor.

  • Patent number: 4551915
Abstract: An arrangement and method to control electrical stress in a region of high electric field strength associated with high voltage equipment, such as cable terminations and joints, includes a semiconductive layer of stress control material and an electrically conductive layer positioned over and in electrical contact with said semiconductive layer in the region of highest electrical stress associated with a discontinuity in the electric field of the equipment. The combination of the conductive layer and the semiconductive stress control layer improves the discharge extinction and the impulse performance of the electrical equipment with which it is used.

  • Patent number: 4518819
Abstract: This invention relates to a clamp assembly for connecting the metal armor, screen or shielding of one power cable of a joint connecting two or more power cables, with a metal bridging element which spans the joint and is connected to the metal armor, screen or shielding of the other power cable or cables of the joint. The clamp assembly comprises a hollow metal cylinder, means for sealing the cylinder to the inner sheath of the power cable and first and second clamping means for securing the metal armor, screen or shielding of the cable and for securing the metal bridging element to the metal cylinder. The metal bridging element can be a part of a protective joint enclosure placed over the joint area.

  • Patent number: 4488583
Abstract: The present invention relates to an arrangement and a device for making possible the supply of material to receptacles of the type intended to contain culture material. The receptacles are adapted to be arranged in a pile, one receptacle being placed on top of another receptacle. Each of the receptacles is provided with a bottom surface on which the material is deposited and a wall projecting upwardly from the bottom surface at right angles thereto. A plurality of piling projections extends along the wall of each of the receptacles in both upwards and downwards directions from the bottom surface, to a level above the upper peripheral edge of the wall, and to a level below that of the peripheral edge of the bottom surface, respectively, so as to make it possible for the receptacles to be arranged in a pile with the projections gripping the edges of upper and lower receptacles, respectively, and the receptacles receiving the intended culture material by means of a supply device.
