  • Patent number: 7257274
Abstract: A system and method for scaling raster image data in multiple directions. One embodiment of the present invention comprises obtaining input scan lines containing a raster image and obtaining at least one scaling value. The method involves a process for altering the length of the scan lines to produce modified scan lines. The method also involves the generation of a plurality of masks, wherein the masks comprise a number of selected bits, and wherein the number of selected bits is based on the scaling value. The method processes sequences of the modified scan lines with individual masks to produce a plurality of output scan lines. The output scan lines are configured to form a raster image having a modified scale in multiple directions.

  • Patent number: 5691180
Abstract: .beta.1,4-N-acetyl-galactosamine-transferase catalyzes the addition of N-acetyl-galactosamine in .beta.1,4-linkage to subterminal galactose substituted with an .alpha.2,3-linked N-acetyl-neuraminic acid residue.

  • Patent number: 5438678
Abstract: A self-powered intelligent computer accessory device has a serial data input port and a parallel data output port and is used for interconnection from computer to computer and between a computer and a peripheral device. The accessory device uses a full wave diode bridge to generate bipolar supply voltages referenced to ground from the serial data port to power a microprocessor of the accessory device. A power extraction circuit is provided on the output side of the microprocessor for extracting power from standard pull-up resistors within the peripheral device to power an output buffer circuit. The period of time in which power is extracted from the pullup resistors is maximized by using an enable control signal from the microprocessor to ensure that the output buffer circuit is only driving the external peripheral device during the output data strobe sequence and at all other times is not consuming power.

  • Patent number: 5376787
Abstract: In a mass spectrometer, an aperture defining a beam path to a particle detector (4) is defined by a fixed aperture (5) and a cover (6) mounted on respective carriage assemblies (50,49) running along a beam 46. When a shaft (36) drives carriage (50), a rod (22) on carriage (49) is engaged by an end of a slot (21) of carriage (50), so that both carriages can be moved to a desired aperture location. After reaching this position, carriage (50) may be moved in the opposite direction, within a range defined by the length of the slot (22), without causing movement of carriage (49), to vary the amount by which member (6) covers member (5) and to thereby define a desired aperture width. A plurality of carriages can be coupled to one another in this manner to form a chain of apertures whose positions and widths may be varied independently using a single drive shaft (36). The fixed aperture (5) and cover ( 6) may be replaced by a pair of opposed aperture-edge defining members in the same plane.

  • Patent number: 4691612
Abstract: An accessory for a drum pedal assembly is disclosed which adjusts the distribution of weight acting on the rotatory element whereby the balance point of the stroke of the beater element as well as rotational forces influencing the character of the beater stroke may be altered. The means for adjustment comprise a cylindrical weight with a rod extending axially which is rotatively carried by a beater stem mount to which it is adjustably secured. By adjusting the extention and orientation of the cylindrical weight, the attack, response and swing of the beater is affected thereby overcoming inherent problems found in the prior art.

  • Patent number: 4567808
Abstract: A foot-operated bass drum pedal is disclosed with an axial means which rolls toward and away from the bass drum head. Means comprise of a shaft with pinions which rolls in a straight line along a horizontal plane provided by pinion racks resting in platforms supported by vertical standards. The shaft with pinions rolls toward the bass drum by depression of a pedal via linkage and rolls away from the bass drum by release of the pedal via tension springs thereby co-axially and cycloidally rotating a beater in and out of a vertical strike position.

  • Patent number: 4513413
Abstract: A telephone communication method provides simultaneous duplex channels between respective pairs of stations over a single wire pair highway by frequency division multiplexing. Each duplex channel has a predetermined pair of carrier frequencies, but only carrier frequency pairs of channels in use for communication are present in the highway at any time. On initiating a call, a station seeks for a free channel and reserves it by generating the "go" carrier of the free channel modulated with the call sign of the desired station, and also generating an alert signal. Quiescent stations respond to the alert by seeking a "go" carrier with call sign data and, on identifying their own call sign, generating the corresponding return carrier to set up the channel.
