A hazardous situation is determined as a function of the first movement data and position data of at least one level crossing, which position data characterize a position of the level crossing. A hazard information signal, which can be called up by the motor vehicle and characterizes the hazardous situation, is provided for the motor vehicle as a function of the hazardous situation.
