  • Patent number: 9682363
Abstract: A method for producing an activated carbon material comprises the steps of producing a hot flue gas stream from a combustion process in a first reactor; routing a first part of said flue gas stream to a second reactor that is substantially vertical; routing a second part of said flue gas stream to eventual venting; injecting and suspending a carbonaceous starting material into said second reactor to devolatilize and activate the carbonaceous starting material to produce an activated carbon material; separating the activated carbon material in a separating device; and routing the gas stream from said separating step to the first reactor for incineration of the volatile contents released from said injecting and suspending step. The activated carbon material is suited for the removal of vapor phase air toxics, such as mercury, from the flue gas of a coal fired power plant. An apparatus for producing the activated carbon material for the same purpose is also described.

  • Publication number: 20110260908
Abstract: A method for mitigating against a clutter source or other interferer in a high precision radar is disclosed. The clutter source or interferer may be a wind farm. The method includes positioning a plurality of relatively low resolution radars, such as low cost marine navigation radars, in or about the interferer, and fusing data from them together, to produce object positional data of increased accuracy. One or more of the radars may be adapted to have a radiation beam pattern directed more towards the vertical, and such adapted radars may advantageously be located more centrally within the interfering region. Data from the individual radars may be fused in any suitable manner, and other information, such as ADS-B broadcasts may be included. Data relating to aircraft may be supplied to operators to supplement air traffic control, and air defence radars, and data relating to shipping around sea based wind farms supplied to vessel traffic system radar operators.

  • Publication number: 20090142717
Abstract: Metering combustion control in a fired equipment is disclosed in which both the fuel flow rate and the combustion air flow rate are metered in a desired ratio corresponding to a master firing rate demand, and the master firing rate demand combustion air flow directed to the combustion air regulating element is trimmed in response to an error based correction adjustment determined from the respective values of the fuel flow meter and combustion air flow meter input signals to drive the ratio between the fuel flow rate and the combustion air flow rate toward the desired ratio for controlling the combustion in accordance with the master firing rate demand.

  • Publication number: 20070017174
Abstract: A removable wall skirting system is disclosed. In a wall structure where an interior wall cladding (30) is carried by a frame and in which a gap (50) is provided between a bottom edge of the cladding and a bottom wall frame member (10) of the frame, the removable wall skirting system covers this gap (50) but allows easier detection of termite activity within the wall structure. Various means of removably attaching the wall skirting are disclosed including magnetic coupling (44,46), clips (47), and rail (70) and slot (72).
