Abstract: Disclosed are vanadium (V) compounds and pharmaceutical compositions comprising these vanadium compounds. Also disclosed are methods of making and using these vanadium compounds, for example, to treat cancer (e.g., including brain cancer).

Abstract: A method and system is described for rapidly classifying a sample of a biological fluid, comprising obtaining a spectrum of the biological fluid in response to excitation of the sample in a specified frequency range, and applying a multivariate classifier to one or more spectral regions of the spectrum to classify the biological sample into one class in a set of classes, the classes comprising at least two disease states having similar clinical symptoms. Methods and systems for developing the classifiers are also described. In one example the classification uses a vibrational spectrometer (5) to provide spectra from serum. The multivariate classifier may run on processor (9) to distinguish between disease states having similar clinical symptoms, such as malaria and cerebral malaria.

Abstract: There are described mononuclear copper complexes having anti-inflammatory activity. The complexes include copper complexes of indomethacin. There are also provided methods for the prophylaxis or treatment of inflammation comprising administering such complexes to a mammalian subject.

Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition comprising a metal complex of a carboxylate having anti-inflammatory activity in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein: (1) the composition has a colloidal structure, or forms a colloidal structure when administered to a human or animal, or is immiscible with water; (2) more than 80% of the total amount of the carboxylate having anti-inflammatory activity in the composition is present as part of a metal complex; and (3) less than 10% of the carboxylate having anti-inflammatory activity complexed with the metal dissociates from the metal over 12 months when the composition is stored in the absence of light at room temperature; but excluding compositions comprising a metal complex containing the ligand DMF. The invention also provides the use of the pharmaceutical composition in the treatment of inflammatory conditions in humans and animals.
