Publication number: 20120286772Abstract: This invention relates to the pipeline corrosion prevention and third party strike pipeline damage. The detector comprises of dual axis Anisotropic Magnetoresistive (AMR) magnetic sensor, analog signal conditional circuitry, digital circuitry, and a display. A pipe current magnitude and direction is measured via magnetic field surrounding the pipe. Magnetic field is sensed by the Anisotropic Magnetoresistive (AMR) magnetic sensor. The sensor converts magnetic field values into an electrical potential difference. This potential difference is converted into digital data and displayed on either computer screen or an LCD display. The current reader will be installed on a pipe and take continuous magnetic field reads (amplitude and direction). Third party strike damage is detected by monitoring magnetic fields around a pipe and comparing them to a baseline magnetic field. Any mechanical damage on a pipe will distort baseline magnetic field value around the pipeline.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 9, 2011Publication date: November 15, 2012Inventors: Mark John Byerley, SR., Roman Rafailovich Chak, Peter Lowe Harkins

Patent number: 7575112Abstract: A system for screening items of baggage comprises attaching to each baggage item at a check-in location within a terminal an electronic tag which is periodically scanned as the item travels via baggage sortation system from the check-in location and a loading location. All baggage items are diverted from the sortation system to an explosive detection screening system housed within a prefabricated building alongside the terminal. Baggage items which are not cleared by the explosive detection screening system are retained within the building for further inspection and cleared baggage items are re-introduced into the sortation system for travel to the loading location.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2004Date of Patent: August 18, 2009Inventors: Peter Lowes, Beverley Bowles

Publication number: 20090201504Abstract: A microfluidic apparatus having a one-dimensional or two-dimensional hydrodynamic flow system to control stable and proper digitally coded bead orientation through the optical detection area of a bioanalysis system. The hydrodynamic system include one core flow, which carries the rectangular barcode beads, and sheath flows, on the sides of or about or around the outer periphery of the core flow, pull the core flow into a proper orientation. The sheath flows, at much higher flow speed but lower volume flow rate, can be pushed or pulled by vacuum, gravity, or pressure. By this method, the coded bead will align themselves in line and flow reliably, without wobbling or flipping, in the core flow channel through the detection zone. By adjusting the relative flow rate of core flow and sheath flows, the coded beads flow reliably in the flow system, thus it can be decoded and detected by an optical system accurately.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2009Publication date: August 13, 2009Inventors: Winston Ho, John Collins, Peter Low

Publication number: 20070229273Abstract: An RFID transponder detector is provided having a coupled oscillator system. Coupled first and second LC pairs of the system produce a detection signal each time a combination of pulses is applied to the LC pairs. Application of the pulses is repeated periodically to produce a sequence fo detection signals having two different first and second detection frequencies. Transmitting the sequence of detection signals results in corresponding first and second response signals having the first and second detection frequencies at the LC pairs. Values of a preselected detection parameter for the detection signals are compared to the values of the detection parameter for the response signals to determine if a transponder having a transponder resonant frequency corresponding to the first or second detection frequency is present in a proximal space of the transponder detector.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2006Publication date: October 4, 2007Inventors: James Hoemann, Peter Lowe
